No. 3 Duke was handed a 73-68 defeat by the hands of unranked Virginia on Thursday, which sparked the home crowd in Charlottesville to partake in the common ritual of rushing the court. It was a monumental victory for the Cavaliers, who improved to 10-5 in ACC play and 20-8 overall. Their upset over the Blue Devils was fueled by a game-high 36 points from junior guard Joe Harris. However, at least one person wasn't too thrilled about fans flooding the court immediately following the game. Longtime Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski voiced his displeasure with the postgame celebration, citing safety concerns as the main reason."Look do you know how close you are to, just put yourself in the position of one of our players or coaches. I'm not saying any fan did this, but the potential is there all the time for a fan to just go up to you and say, 'Coach you're a ... ' or push you or hit you. And what do you do? What if you did something? That would be the story. We deserve that type of protection."Coach K certainly has a point there. Visiting players and coaches often find themselves in the line of fire during court rushes."Whatever you're doing, you need to get the team off first," Krzyzewski said. "Look, celebrate, have fun, obviously you won, that's cool. Just get our team off the court and our coaching staff before students come on."Thursday marked the fourth time this season that Coach K and his team have had to dodge a court storming. Duke has previously lost to N.C. State, Miami, and Maryland, all of which have come on the road.Krzyzewski concluded by noting that his comments weren't intended to overshadow Virginia's performance in the game."I don't want to demean the game with this," he said. "They played great. Harris was unbelievable. That's the story of the game."Video of fans rushing the floor can be seen below.Via USA TODAY
