The Mariners just equaled their best-ever mark against the Oakland A's, surviving a ninth-inning homer allowed by David Aardsma and winning 4-2. That gave Seattle a series sweep and a 14-5 record overall against their rivals from the Bay Area. Seattle also now can finish no worse than 83-79 on the year. You know, it looks a lot better when you get the loss total below 80. The M's are now 83-77, with three to play, They can technically still catch the Rangers for second place if they sweep Texas this weekend. Wouldn't that be something? Hard to believe the Rangers were in the wild-card hunt just three weeks ago. Bet they'd have let those three rain-hampered games in Arlington earlier this month get washed out and replayed here if they could do it all over again.
