Not everybody was ready to pat Jason Collins on the back for becoming the first active male athlete from one of the United States' four major sports leagues to openly announce he's gay.
While many of Collins' peers gave him encouragement via social media and other outlets after the news broke via Sports Illustrated on Monday morning, new Miami Dolphins wide receiver Mike Wallace ignited a bit of controversy for comments he wrote.
"All these beautiful women in the world and guys wanna mess with other guys SMH ...," Wallace wrote from his Twitter account (@Wallace17_daKid).
He followed up with: "I'm not bashing anybody don't have anything against anyone I just don't understand it."
Not surprisingly, Wallace's comments were met with much disdain and were soon deleted from his Twitter feed and replaced with an apology.
"Never said anything was right or wrong I just said I don't understand!! Deeply sorry for anyone that I offended."
