A pair of Hamline University basketball players (Saint Paul, Min.) were arrested on New Year's Eve after one allegedly punched a woman in the face, which sent her to the hospital with a broken jaw and a broken eye socket. The main suspect, Eugene Lawrence, is being charged with felony second degree assault. The incident occurred in Spokane, Wash. following Hamline's visit to Whitworth University for a road basketball game on Monday night. That is when Tyler Pannell, a native of nearby Portland, met up with an old high school friend afterward. However, their reunion quickly turned from joyous to violent.According to KXLY, the father of 20-year old Kayla Bray alleges that his daughter and Lawrence engaged in an altercation while Pannell was giving Bray a ride to an area hotel. The situation quickly escalated when Lawrence reportedly punched her in the face, thus knocking her to the ground.Bray then asked the players to call 911, but they refused on the grounds that it would break their curfew. And perhaps their collegiate basketball career, as well? Bray eventually called for assistance on her own.Lawrence made his first court appearance on Wednesday and bail has been set at $5,000.Lawrence, a 6-foot-4 forward from New Orleans, has since been removed from the basketball team's online roster. The school has yet to release a statement.
