The New Britain Rock Cats, the Double-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, came clean Wednesday and admitted that the in-game marriage proposal last week was a hoax. The video of the fake marriage proposal went viral after the man can be seen getting rejected in front of thousands of fans with the team's mascot standing nearby. The Rock Cats issued a statement Wednesday saying the whole thing was a publicity stunt played out by two of its own employees. They posed as a couple and performed the proposal in between innings on a game on Aug. 2.The man can be seen getting down on one knee, ring in hand, and popping the question. The lady responds by saying, "I'm sorry, I can't, I'm sorry" as she runs away. Meanwhile, a man with the microphone can't help but giggle as the broken-hearted Romeo runs after his fake girlfriend. Here is what the club's vice president of marketing had to say afterward:“After watching a public proposal, we talked about what would happen if the answer were ‘no,’ and how that might affect a crowd and those viewing it after on video,” said Mike Abramson, the team’s vice president of marketing. “We worked with two of our staff on the skit and executed a digital strategy to set the video on a viral path; we could not be more pleased with the outcome.”The video has racked up over 700,000 views to date and has brought an overwhelming amount of attention to the team in general. So, yeah I would say the move worked.Via Sports Illustrated
