Crazy minor league promotions are, for the most part, awesome.  And on Friday night, the San Rafael Pacifics have planned a doozy. Ladies and gentlemen...Friday night is "Funeral Night". Here's the deal.  Fans were able to submit a 200-word obituary of themselves and the winner...wins his or her own funeral.  San Rafael's funeral giveaway comes just days after the Lehigh IronPigs did a similar stunt.  Their promotion had a happy ending (of sorts).  I mean...they still gave away funeral. The winner? A 64-year-old suffering from ALS. "I wrote the essay five times until I felt comfortable with it and sent it in," Steve Paul said.  "I prayed I would win, so this is like an answer to my prayers." Clever stunts like this are nothing new for the Pacifics.  And when you're leading your division by more than ten games...why not get a little creative?  Tuesday night, former big league pitcher Bill Lee suited up for the team and played DH.  He went 2-for-4 with an RBI.  The next night, "Spaceman" (not to be outdone by...himself) played all nine positions during the game, even pitching a scoreless fifth inning. “I made a bad play at second but I played first well. I caught, I had an assist on a foul tip and another assist when I threw a guy out,” Lee said following the game. “We came back in the ninth inning. When you can get the tying run to the plate, that’s a good day.” So, let's see here, a 66-year-old on field playing all nine positions one night...a funeral the next?  What could possibly be next for the Pacifics?  Oh...that's right.  Larry Thomas (the guy who played "The Soup Nazi" on "Seinfeld") will be on hand posing for pictures and signing autographs. Who needs the Zooperstars!
