PLAYERS: Jason Arnott
TEAMS: New York Rangers
Yesterday, Andy Stickland at 590 The Fan in St. Louis reported that Jason Arnott failing his physical with the Rangers may not have been fully injury related as the coaches/players and GM were not on the same page. Today, Strickland expanded on that further saying that there may have been some miscommunication inside the Rangers organization that led to the signing blowing up. On January 26th, the Rangers and Arnott agreed on a one-year deal worth $1.6 - $1.7 million. ...while Strickland is still being very cryptic, I can only assume he is inferring that Tortorella and Sather had differing opinions on signing Arnott or possibly his role with the team. I still wish if Strickland is going to post something like this he'd be more specific as it leaves a lot to be desired. ...doubt we'll ever really know what happened. Especially with how tight lipped the Rangers are on everything. Remember to follow me on Twitter & Facebook or e-mail me at nyrfan94@yah...

Rangers defenseman Marc Staal takes slapshot to the face (Video)

New York Rangers defenseman Marc Staal took a slapshot in the face off a deflection during the third period of Tuesday night's game against the Philadelphia Flyers. It happened after a faceoff in the Rangers' end as Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen took the slapshot near the blue line, which deflected off Flyers forward Jakuub Voracek into Staal's right eye. Play...

Torts: McDonagh Is Fighting It

Ryan McDonagh earned the well deserved reputation of being warrior after last season's breakout year which saw him finish the regular season as a +25 player with 182 blocks while averaging 24:44 of ice time per game. And I don't think there's a Rangers fan who will ever forget when McDonagh took this hit, which would have put most of us in the hospital, against the...

Goal breakdown: Flyers at Rangers

The Rangers took two points from the rival Flyers tonight, 4-2 at The Garden. With the exception of an incredibly scary puck to the eye suffered by Marc Staal, and some offensive zone penalties, it was a pretty awesome game to watch. Rick Nash flat out dominated and Ryan Callahan continued his high-scoring ways. Oh, and Henrik Lundqvist is back. Let’s get to the goals… First...

Richards Doesn't Practice as Kaleta Feels Like Garbage for Hurting Team Not Richards

The Rangers website reports that Brad Richards did not practice the day after he was violently boarded by Patrick Kaleta. However, in a piece of good news John Tortorella said that Richards will be fine and no one has been recalled from the Whale making it likely that Richards will play against the Islanders tomorrow night at MSG. Arron Asham (back spasms) was also absent...

Marc Staal takes puck to the eye

I’m not sure what the Rangers’ Marc Staal ever did to the Flyers’  Kimmo Timonen, but I’m guessing Staal didn’t deserve this.  And yes, I know it was a total fluke play. Timmonen wound up with a slap shot from just inside the blue line and the puck caromed off something in front of Staal before jumping up and getting him in the face. Staal was done in pain for nearly...

Nash Needs to Lead Rangers’ Offense

On Thursday night in their 4-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning, the New York Rangers fired 42 shots on goal and created offense by not being afraid to go to the net, by not being afraid to put pucks on net and lastly, by following the lead of one of their own players. That player was power forward Rick Nash. Besides getting on the scoresheet with two points on one goal and one...

Rangers come through with shootout win

Rick Nash had a goal and assist and also scored in the shootout to lead the New York Rangers to a 3-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres Sunday night. Ryan Callahan also scored for New York in the shootout. Derek Stepan added a goal, and Henrik Lundqvist made 28 saves. New York has won two in a row. Drew Stafford and Nathan Gerbe scored for Buffalo. Ryan Miller stopped 26 of 28 shots...

Zuccarello's KHL Season Ends

According to multiple sources, Mats Zuccarello's KHL team Metallurg was eliminated from the playoffs today, meaning he is available for the Rangers to sign. It has been reported that Glen Sather is interested in bringing back Zuccarello who is still Rangers property and would not have to clear waivers before signing with the team. Zuccarello's agents were in New York...

Rangers 4, Flyers 2

Rick Nash snapped a third-period tie and then added an insurance goal as the New York Rangers held on to beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-2 on Tuesday night for their third win in a row. Nash fired a shot that sneaked under the right arm of goalie Ilya Bryzgalov 2:50 into the third to give New York its second lead of the game. He doubled the advantage to 4-2 with 8:18 left, fighting...

Ryan Miller gets undressed by Rick Nash and Ryan Callahan in shootout

Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller had a rough outing on Sunday against the New York Rangers in the shootout.  Miller is a very good goalie, but he and the Sabres have been struggling this year.  During the shootout, Rick Nash and Ryan Callahan pretty much undressed him and the Sabres were handed their 14th loss (12 regulation, 2 OT) of the year.  Might be time for Miller to work...

Game 20 Preview: Sabres at Rangers

The Sabres made waves recently when they fired Lindy Ruff after 16 seasons as their head coach. Since then they’ve gone 3-2 under Ron Rolston.  Under both coaches, the Sabres system is similar to what we’ve seen from the Flyers under Peter Laviolette, which is essentially two different looks. The first look is the 2-1-2 forecheck, which the Rangers utilize as well. This is...
