The Indians today called up RHP Danny Salazar to start against the Toronto Blue Jays in the series finale.
Salazar will be making his Major League debut-
“He has split the 2013 season between AA Akron and AAA Columbus where he has gone a combined 5-5 with a 3.08 ERA in 17 starts (76.0IP, 61H, 26ER, 4HR, 23BB, 100K, .221AVG). He has fanned 11.8 batters per 9.0IP, owns a strikeout to walk ratio of 4.35 and leads all Indians farmhands with 100 punch outs.
After beginning the season at Akron (2-3, 2.67ERA, 7GS) he has posted a mark of 3-2 with a 3.40 ERA in 10 starts for the Clippers (42.1IP, 34H, 16ER, 13BB, 49K), is coming off Indians Minor League Player of the Week honors (10.0IP, 3H, 0R, 1BB, 10K) and hasn’t yielded an earned run over his last 16.0 innings. Originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by Cleveland in 2006, Salazar entered the 2013 season ranked as the 7th best prospect in the Indians system according to Baseball America.”
To make room for Salazar, the Indians optioned RP Preston Guilmet (who made his Major League debut last night in relief) to Columbus.
