After a drought that lasted more than a decade, Michigan State now has received two commitments from Cass Tech in less than a month.deon_drake_247sportsCass Tech's Deon Drake is the third commitment in the class of 2014 for Michigan State. (247Sports Photo)

2014 linebacker Deon Drake committed to Michigan State on Saturday, joining 2013 offensive lineman Dennis Finley as future Spartans on the Technicians' roster. Finley committed to Michigan State on August 26.

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound junior picked MSU over offers from Iowa, Nebraska and Wisconsin. 247Sports gives Drake a four-star ranking and tabbed him as the No. 173 recruit nationally (No. 6 inside linebacker). He also plays running back for Cass Tech.

“Michigan State I just felt was the best choice. They were at top of my list,” Drake said to The Lansing State Journal. “I have received a lot of letters from each coach. Being at their game against Boise State was just great to see. It was just great to see the defense move around. Just keeping it close to home is also good for my parents because I would love to see them at my games.”

Drake visited East Lansing a couple times in the summer, and also for the Boise State game.

Drake joins Grand Rapids Christian wide receiver Drake Harris and Traverse City St. Francis linebacker Byron Bullough as the early members of the class of 2014, which currently ranks 12th in the 247Sports rankings. Harris joins Drake in the Top247 rankings, checking in at No. 89.

With two linebackers already in the fold, and offers out to other top players (such as Clifton Garrett, Nyles Morgan and Raekwon McMillan), the Spartans' 2014 LB class is shaping up to be talent-laden.
