Saturday afternoon (3:30 pm Eastern, CBS) the LSU Tigers are set to welcome the visiting Florida Gators in a critical matchup of SEC heavyweights in Baton Rouge. The names of the two respective programs alone are enough to elicit a tremendous amount intrigue from fans and outside observers, as both schools together have combined to account for four of the past ten BCS national championships. And both teams have once again produced a nationally prominent team, as each again enters the annual meeting ranked in the top twenty and sporting just one loss on the year. The matchup appears to feature a classic battle of strength versus strength, a clash in which something has to give. The Gators are highlighted by an extremely stingy defense under the guide of UF head coach and former LSU defensive coordinator Will Muschamp; directly opposing them will be a greatly revamped LSU offensive unit largely enhanced by the influence of new coordinator Cam Cameron and the significant elevation in QB Zach Mettenberger’s level of play. Undoubtedly when the two behemoth programs square off, one can count on a hotly competitive affair to the end. Big stakes are riding on the line when Florida and LSU tangle in Baton Rouge on Saturday afternoon. The Gators are seeking to climb their way back up toward the top ten of the polls and back into the mix of BCS title discussion. Meanwhile LSU is looking to notch a much-needed SEC victory and to ascend their way back toward the forefront of the national picture; the Tigers can ill afford a loss, as a second conference defeat in all likelihood would virtually eliminate them from BCS discussion and from SEC West contention. History dictates that such big games within the conference inevitably could be decided by turnovers and big plays. Considering that games carrying high stakes typically are played between two teams of a similar lofty talent level, costly errors can be magnified. Expect the same to hold true this weekend when the Tigers hook up with the Gators. The Florida/LSU game this weekend will be one worth tuning in to for casual fans and observers of college football. It features two teams still clinging to lofty goals and aspirations which remain intact up to this point in the season. Additionally it promises to feature two squads loaded with future NFL players competing to the bitter end with relentless desire to notch a significant SEC victory over a longtime foe. 1 total views, 1 views today
