It’s been a dismal Speedweeks at the Daytona International Speedway for Carl Edwards this season. After earning the pole for the 2012 Daytona 500 last season picking up from a second place finish in the final standings of the NASCAR Sprint Cup season the year prior, bad luck set on. It’s continued for the start of the 2013 season so far. Edwards has wrecked four times in his No. 99 Ford Fusion at the 2.5-mile high banked oval in ’13. It started in the January test session when he was caught up in the “Big One” on the backstretch. When the series returned for Speedweeks last week he was hoping his luck would have changed. So far it has not. Edwards was collected in a practice wreck early in the first session of the season for Sprint Unlimited practice last Friday. He would also get caught up in a wreck yesterday in practice with Ryan Newman. That was the third one of the year and put the team way behind schedule. He qualified 17th in qualifications on Sunday and started ninth in race one of the Budweiser Duels Thursday afternoon. As luck would have it, he was once again in the wrong place at the wrong time for the fourth time at DIS as Denny Hamlin snapped loose coming off of Turn 2 on Lap 52 and hit Edwards. He ended up in the wall hard once again and will be forced to use yet another back up car for the race on Sunday. Edwards will do everything in his power on Sunday not to make it 5-for-5 to start this year off and sweep away all those issues with his first Daytona 500 victory. If not, the Roush-Fenway Racing team will be behind the eight ball to start this season off after going winless and missing the Chase last season.   Follow Eric Smith on Twitter @ericsportsguru for all IndyCar and NASCAR news and updates The post NASCAR: Carl Edwards bad luck streak in Daytona Speedweeks continues appeared first on Race Review Online.
