Avondale, AZ- This could be a very special weekend for NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Matt Crafton. He’s dominated the series for most of the season as he has finished in the top 10 in all but two races. That dominance has a chance to pay off this weekend at the Phoenix International Raceway as he can clinch his first Truck title of his career under the lights Friday night. Crafton currently leads second place and the defending Truck champion James Buescher by 46 points entering Friday night’s Lucas Oil 150 at PIR. He only needs to make up three more points on Buescher and third place Ty Dillon who trails by 47 points at the end of the night and the title is his. If he leads by 49 points or more leaving the 1-mile oval this weekend then he’s officially the champion heading to the season finale at Homestead. It could also be a banner weekend for his team ThorSport Racing as well. They’re looking to clinch the owner’s title as they lead the standings over the No. 51 Kyle Busch Motorsports Toyota Tundra team by 32 points entering this weekend. Busch gave them some help last weekend in the race at Texas as his engine blew midrace. That left him with a disappointing finish while Crafton earned another top 10 which gave him even more of a cushion as he only held the lead by 15 points entering Texas. This could be a crowning weekend for the Truck Series overall as two of the three championship races would be clinched. It could be the only other thing to watch for is the Sunoco Rookie of the Year battle going to the season finale at Homestead. Eric Smith is the Lead Motorsports Writer for Race Review Online.
