Porter Fischer, a former Biogenesis of Miami employee, has said he and other employees have identified NBA players who were clients of the clinic. Fischer is the man responsible for bringing the Biogenesis scandal public. A report from ESPN claims that no big name NBA players are linked to the case. Fischer says that during his time at the clinic, the amount of players linked to Biogenesis was far more than people imagine. In baseball, Ryan Braun and Alex Rodriguez are the biggest names connected to the case, but as many as 25 total players are involved. Fischer claims that in the four years he knows about there were “well over a hundred” athletes connected to the clinic. He also states that some of the athletes are on the books at Biogenesis going back as far as 2009. Current NBA rules have a first performance-enhancing drug offense resulting in a 20-game ban, while a second violation would cost the offender 45 games. A third offense would result in a lifetime ban from the league. For years many around the NBA have wondered if the league might have the same kind of performance-enhancing drug problem as other sports. If there is a real connection to the Biogenesis scandal and it causes the same kind of avalanche baseball has had to deal with, this could turn into a big deal. It may be the first issue new NBA commissioner-to-be Adam Silver has to deal with. Fischer also went on to say that athletes from the NCAA, professional boxing, tennis and mixed martial arts were all connected to the clinic. Fischer additionally claims that Major League Baseball offered him $125,000 for documents from Biogenesis, a number that league sources have confirmed.
