Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini is a polarizing figure in college football, and since recruiting the best players in Big Ten country is a difficult challenge, he’s not afraid to get a little creative when trying to impress highly rated prospects.
At a recent in-home recruiting visit, Pelini actually wrestled with four-star offensive lineman Tanner Farmer.
“I bet you can’t take me down, Pelini joked with Tanner,” per Sam McKewon of Omaha.com.
“Farmer hesitated. Pelini is pretty tall and in good shape. But he’s not a wrestler. Go on, boy, Brian told his son. If he wants to go, go. You scared to take me down? Pelini said to Tanner,” McKewon wrote. “The strongest player in Nebraska’s 2014 class got Pelini in a hold and lifted him up in the air. There, a potential takedown turned into a big hug between coach and player.”
The bold and strange tactic worked for Pelini because Farmer would later commit to the Corn Huskers’ 2014 recruiting class. Nebraska’s class currently sits in 39th place in
