This is a big weekend for Mark Wahlberg. Boston's favorite rapper-turned-actor stars in the movie Ted about a man whose best friend is his crude, boisterous teddy bear come to life. The movie opened to a record-setting debut where it took in the most an original R-rated comedy has ever grossed in an opening weekend.

While promoting the movie, Wahlberg explained why his reaction to the narrow loss his Patriots suffered at the hands of the New York Giants resulted in his wife banning him from watching the Super Bowl in their home.

According to Wahlberg, he immediately threw out all of his friends following the loss and got into an intense argument with his wife, model Rhea Durham, when she attempted to calm him down.

"She was so upset I wasn't able to make it up to her until Valentine's Day… She said, 'You know, you're never watching the game again (at home),' but now she just hopes that the Patriots make it back to the Super Bowl so she can go on, like, a week vacation."

The actor is friends with Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who had to pay Wahlberg a visit to help ease the pain of the loss. "He's doing good. He handled it better than I did. He came to visit me… and Tom feels, like, they're gonna win this year."

The Dorchester-born Wahlberg is a die-hard Patriots fan, and admitted that he was very torn up following the Giants' second improbable come-from-behind win over the Pats in the Super Bowl. "It was bad. I always tell myself I'm not gonna get upset, but you just can't help it."

Let's hope the big movie opening isn't the only good thing to happen for Walhberg this year, and that a Super Bowl win for the Patriots means the only person being crude and boisterous in his life is his teddy bear friend.
