Hamilton Means Racing is set to make its NASCAR Sprint Cup Series debut this weekend by attempting to qualify for Sunday’s Goody’s Fast Relief 500 at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway. Scott Speed will be behind the wheel of the organization’s No. 52 entry.
“We are so happy to finally have everything come together, and we’re ready to get out there on the track,” team co-owner Dell Hamilton said. “We’re happy to have Scott driving for us and are confident that he can get the job done.
HMR plans to purchase Toyotas from Michael Waltrip Racing and lease engines from Pro Motor Engines.
Speed previously raced full-time in the Sprint Cup Series for Red Bull Racing, but he was released from that organization at the end of the 2010 season. He has since raced in the series on a part-time basis.
Speed’s Sprint Cup Series experience includes 89-career starts, with a best finish of fifth coming at Talladega Superspeedway in 2009.
