Reports have now surfaced that New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes has suffered a Lisfranc injury to his left foot, meaning the team could be without the receiver for the rest of the season.
On Sunday, Holmes went down on the first play of the fourth quarter of New York’s 34-0 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. After catching a pass, Holmes went down in a heap near the sideline and took a while to get up.
X-rays on the foot were negative, but subsequent MRI results were sent to a foot specialist in North Carolina and the team’s fears of a Lisfranc injury were realized.

The Jets have not publicly announced the severity of the injury, but given how Holmes went down and the amount of pain he was in, it would make sense if it was pretty severe. If it is, indeed a Lisfranc injury, it would mean he’s likely done for the rest of the season.
A Lisfranc injury is classified by bones in the mid-foot being broken or when the ligaments that support the mid-foot are torn.
Things just keep getting better and better for the Jets this season. With star cornerback Darrelle Revis already out for the year, and now the team’s top offensive weapon likely done for the season, this may be a lost campaign.
Then again, with how disruptive Holmes has been to the team this could also be an addition by subtraction situation. That said, the Jets have by far the worst receiving corps in the NFL and this will only make things worse.
