The Pirates avoided salary arbitration hearings this year by reaching deals with all their arb-eligible players. James McDonald and Neil Walker agreed to deals yesterday ($3.025M and $3.3M respectively), while Garrett Jones, Gaby Sanchez, and Charlie Morton had already reached deals a few weeks ago. All their salaries are reasonable and within the ranges of most projections, so it looks like the Bucs’ 2013 payroll should end up at about $69M. A few other brief notes, capping a slow couple of weeks: There’s STILL no official word on the Francisco Liriano deal, even though the report of his modified agreement came ten days ago. We’ve seen reports indicating that he broke his humerus in his right arm and another report saying the cause was a fall in the bathroom, but the whole situation remains very sketchy. MLB.com’s Tom Singer noted that a minor-league deal is a possibility. A slew of former Pirates have signed elsewhere over the last couple of days. Forbes to Federal has a summary of them all here.  ROOT Sports will air 5 Bucco Spring Training games. The first broadcast is a month away. Several farm system rankings have been coming out lately, and the Pirates seem to be measuring up pretty well. Pat (WHYGAVS) summarizes and discusses them here.  Pitchers and catchers report in 10 days!
