The UFC has announced that two of the biggest names in Strikeforce history will take part in the UFC on FOX 7 card scheduled for Saturday, April 20th in San Jose, California. The news was made official on the UFC’s official website.
Headlining the card will be UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson defending his lightweight title for the third time when he takes on Strikeforce’s longest reigning champion in Gilbert “El Nino” Melendez. The winner will certainly crown the undisputed lightweight champion in MMA.
In the co-main event, Strikeforce Grand Prix heavyweight tournament winner Daniel Cormier will return to action quickly after his win over Dion Staring last Saturday to battle two-time heavyweight champ Frank Mir in a long-anticipated showdown. The match-up was originally scheduled to take place last November in Strikeforce but a training injury forced Mir out of the bout. Whilst a win would certainly earn Cormier his title shot, it appears he is more interested in moving down to light-heavyweight and challenging Jon Jones after this.
