The NFL stands for National Football League. It is a qualified American football league comprising of 32 football teams, distributed correspondingly between the American Football Conference and the National Football Conference. NFL is regarded as the highest professional level of football (not to be confused with soccer) in the whole world. It works for 17 consecutive weeks till the end of the year and onward, and each team under NFL plays 16 games on an average.

The league was formed on the 20th of August, 1920, and was initially named American Professional Football Conference. In 1922, it was renamed as the National Football League.

As NFL has the best 32 teams under it, 18 teams have got the honor of winning Super Bowl each. The best of the lot is the Green Bay Packers, which has 13 championships under its belt. Following close to their heels is the Chicago Bears with nine NFL championships and New York Giants with 8 NFL championships. Pittsburgh Steelers have won 6 Super Bowl championships, while the Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers have won 5 Super Bowls each.

Teams that are to watch out for this season are in the AFC East—Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, New York, Jets, New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens, etc. Betting on these teams will be a good option as they are seen as great prospects for the 2013 season.
