The NHL is investigating a potential scoreboard error at the Staples Center during the Los Angeles Kings last-second victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday.

"We're looking at it from all aspects," NHL executive vice president Colin Campbell told TSN's Pierre LeBrun on Thursday. "We're sending two people out there. Is it possible for the clock to stop like that? We're going to look at everything."

Defenseman Drew Doughty scored with four-tenths of a second remaining to give the Kings a 3-2 win.

After Curtis Sanford made a pair of saves on Anze Kopitar, Doughty received a pass from fellow defenseman Jack Johnson and buried a shot from the slot just before time expired.

The Blue Jackets looked at the video after the game, claiming that the clock froze for approximately a second - which then would have caused time to expire before Doughty's goal.

Columbus general manager Scott Howson noted on his blog that while his team is struggling, the contest may indeed have an "enormous impact" on the standings.

"It's easy to say that this doesn't matter," Howson wrote. "We, the Blue Jackets, are in last place and it is likely not going to affect our place in the standings. However, in my opinion, this matters in many respects. It matters to our players, to our coaches, every person in our organization and our fans."
