OAKLAND PLAYOFF BOUND?

Posted September 20, 2013

JUST when it seemed like it was as good as it was going to get, it gets even better.

Until last night the RAIDERS were tied for first in the NFL in sacks, and currently lead the NFL in rushing. Better still we DON'T lead the the NFL in penalties. In fact we aren't even close to leaders Tampa Bay, San Francisco, and Philadelphia; all tied with 23 penalties each.

But here's the good news; GM Reggie McKenzie doesn't want to rest on these laurels. When asked if our 'better than expected' start was vindication of moves the team has made, Reggie responded with:

"Vindication? No. Not at all," he said Wednesday. "It's way too early. Vindication is when we're in the playoffs. Then it's a whole new season. That's my goal. ... Our goal is to try and win as many games as we can and get to the playoffs." ( http://www.pro32.ap.org/article/raiders-gm-says-vindication-comes-playoffs )

Playoffs?! Playoffs?! That's a big load to put on the roster's shoulders; especially with Andy Reid and the Chiefs (3-0), and the Broncos (2-0) looming, and our only win so far coming against the Jaguars.

Then again you only get stronger by lifting heavy weights.

  • It wouldn't surprise me Flip.
  • I will be watching like a HAWK Monday night.
  • I would be happy for you if your Raiders win. Ive always liked that the Raiders buck the system. Anything is possible.
  • More than anything I'm just glad that the GM put that out there as an thinly veiled expectation. When you point in a direction like that AND add a time table you have a GOAL. At that point you can make plans to reach it and establish benchmarks to gauge how you're doing.

Pointing in a direction alone is just a wish. It's saying "I want that" without saying when you intend to get it, and so it doesn't prompt a plan of action.

The casual fan will say something along the lines that "playoffs are an annual expectation". I disagree. Just look at Cleveland, or even the EAGLES. Even FANS are saying 7-9 as an expectation. There is no way to expect 7-9 and expect to make the playoffs.

Like I said, I'm glad that Reggie set a goal. I have my doubts about us (RAIDERS) winning enough games to take the division, but I love the idea that they've been publicly put on the spot to try.
  • Good luck.
