The Fiesta Bowl on Thursday, January 3 features a rather intriguing matchup between the Oregon Ducks and Kansas State Wildcats, but this matchup could very well have been for the BCS Championship if not for one fateful weekend in November. The Ducks’ title hopes were derailed by Stanford at Autzen Stadium in overtime, while Kansas State was crushed by Baylor, a talented but erratic football team that finished in the middle of the pack in the Big 12. Suffice to say, this meeting features two teams that have been amongst some of the strongest in Division 1-A Football.Kansas State has appeared in 15 bowl games throughout their long history, and the 2013 Fiesta Bowl marks their third consecutive season in a bowl game. This will also be the Wildcats third visit to the Fiesta Bowl, winning the 1997 game versus Syracuse but losing in the 2003 version against Ohio State. Oregon is making their fourth consecutive appearance in a BCS bowl game – losing the 2010 Rose Bowl to Ohio State, losing in the 2011 BCS Championship Game to Auburn by 3 points, but beating Wisconsin in the 2012 Rose Bowl to stop their skid. The matchup itself features the frenetic Oregon offense versus a talented Kansas State defense, while a balance K-State offense gets to test an underrated Oregon defense. In one of my previous posts, I gave five reasons why I expect the Oregon Ducks to end up victorious in the 2013 Fiesta Bowl, which in itself could be a bold prediction if fans of the Big 12 have anything to say about it. While I do expect the Oregon offense to be clicking on all gears in this battle, I also have three additional bold predictions about what we might see in the game.
