Our lack of talent shows

Posted September 19, 2013

If we lose McCoy, Jackson or Vick we might not be able to beat the Browns and the Jaguars would be a toss up.    Our WR simply cant do anything especially across the middle.  We have no beef.    Riley Cooper is a fifth option on most teams but he is masquerading as a #2.  PLEAZZZZZ.   Its like falling off a cliff.  McCoy, Jackson---------------------down we go-------------------->Cooper.  WTFudge.  I mean its a joke.   And there are those that say being 19 million under the cap means nothing.   Quit fooling yourself thats an additional 4-6 solid players  or 2-3 impact players.   We are being hosed and so is Chip.  I think the coordinators are doing a decent job but bottom line is its about the thletes and we just dont have a whole lot.  it will take a miracle to have a winning season.  I hope Chip can find his magic at this level because he is going to need it.  Third game in and some bad habits are starting to rear its ugly head.   I think McCoy, Jackson and Vick are doing as much as they can.  Is there anyone out there that can help this talent starved team.

  • I think it's time to close the book on Cooper as a starter.

In a WCO? Sure! Big body on slants, him having good not great speed. Not great hands, but he hold onto balls after hits. WCO? Sure!

In Kelly's system however it seems he can't get separation out there. Like Avant I think he's be money in the slot, but in this system, I just think COOPER is like having a 12th defensive player out there, and that side of the field is off limits.

To answer your question, this is where a Greg Salas would've provided Kelly an option that former Orgeon player Jeff Maehl can't provide. Ah well.
  • You're half right Hollywood. Vick was doing everything he could. To hand deliver this game to the Chiefs. I knew he'd regress to the mean eventually.
  • Lets not get carried away. Yes it was piss poor but you think a game plan could have a little more imagination. This team lacks play makers. He is trying hard to fit those passes into tight places and spaces. Nobody said he was a D-mac,
  • Vick on his best day was never better and never will be better than Donovan on his worst day. Let's get that straight.

Kelly has his work cut out for him in terms of turning this team around. The title of your post is absolutely spot on hollywood. It saddens me that we have this incredible All-Pro back in Shady McCoy whose prime years will be wasted here. Let's face it. Star RBs do not have a long shelf life in the NFL.
  • ...and the blame for that lack of talent needs to be shared by the coach on the other sideline.
  • Fans of other teams think it's insane that I feel this way about Reid, but I have a burning resentment of him. He left this team in darkness. The 2010 and 2011 drafts are just unforgivable. As if I needed anymore reason to crap on the Kolb pick in 2007 other than trading a first rounder to Dallas, here's another one. Take a look at who was picked after him. It was the guy that is no widely accepted as the best Free Safety in the NFL. Eric Weddle.
  • The funny thing is if we actually trusted in what the man who lives on this site typed he'd have us believing that Kelly gets most of the blame for the sad state of this roster. I still can't get past the fact that he buried us for being down on a 12-20 team yet questioned Kelly and his every move from day one. Thre is a word for that, right? He patted himself on the back yet again for being "right" but if he had his way an old tired McNabb would be in his last year or two of a long term deal with the Eagles and instead of discussing how rookie Kelly needs to learn from his mistakes we'd be discussing veteran Reid and his claiming "I have to do a better job".
  • Ill be the first to admit I was wrong about McCoy. Even though I choose him first in my fantasy league I had no clue he would grow up this quick. You are right his best years are getting wasted. At this point they might want to save him for whats coming next which is a big question mark. Im not bailing on the season because the division stinks and these are bunch of AFC games but this team is beginning to look mightily familiar. GTD is right the blame for the talent void is mainly because of Reids crappy choices and decisions but you do get what you pay for. Always something missing with the Eagles.
  • I think Kelly has something to do with it too Hollywood. He has not impressed me this year.
  • As much as people are going to place this one on Mike Vick I have to state that his coach, and his offensive line did him no favors last night. Mike did plenty of dumb things last night, but his offensive line looked worn out and were getting beat on nearly every passing down. Still those interceptions were mostly on Vick. Riley Cooper isn't an NFL player. He's never been, but for some reason he keeps getting chance after chance. He's Hank Baskett with a racist attitude and no playboy bunny.
  • Mostly on Vick? Those picks were all on Vick, Eazy and he had another half dozen passes at least that were over receivers heads and behind them...and had plenty of time to throw on quite a few of them. Was the loss solely on Vick?...no but just like the last two years plus he gets a big part of the blame. Just like I typed to GG, you can't let a couple of nice games by Vick fool you...he is what he is. If you choose to stick with last week's stance and insist the Eagles are fine at QB, that is up to you but my guess is that Vick will change that opinion yet again by the end of the year.
  • Like I wrote in my post he should have had five interceptions in the game. In fact the DT from the Chiefs saved him from serving one right up to Akeem Jordan by knocking it down. Vick didn't read his progressions and he wasn't setting his feet. With that being the case his offensive line did him no favors. Peters was getting beat all night, Todd has looked awful two weeks straight now, Kelce had several bad snaps to include the fumble, and Lane made Houston look like an all pro. They are the reason why I can't put it all on Vick. They were very ineffective as pass blockers in the game. Vick felt the pressure and it was real pressure. I don't think there are many quarterbacks who would have performed better under the circumstances.
  • It still doesn't change the fact that Vick forced two horrible passes on the picks and on neither of them do I remember great pressure...he can't make throws like those! Vick is Vick, Eazy...he may give his team a string of games from time to time but at 33 why would anyone think Vick was going to change? Because of Kelly and his offense? Been there done that with Reid and his offense. Unfortunately with the struggles this week that should push Vick into even more mistakes...that's been his past...to try and create where he doesn't have an opening.
  • I do not expect Vick to change, but as far as this situation goes he did have a lot of pressure. Still he did throw some very poor interceptions, and on the plays he missed he was way off. I'm not under any illusion that Vick isn't what I think he is. Nor am I trying to tell you that he somehow had a great game. I'm just stating that it wasn't all his fault, but he most certainly was terrible last night.
  • This entire team should report for practice with bags over their heads until they learn how to play NFL football.
  • He's played well. He did have a bad game and everybody has a bad game.
  • I am going to say it riley cooper is not a #1 wr period--they need a big physical wide recver---even with maclin,on the field, get well soon!!to scare defenses---ala terrel owens type--I have stating defense--will not hold up 5-11 or worse, until they fixed---3 and 20 with chiefs--enough said---denver broncos next manning 500 yards---alex smith did not go deep all night
  • As I stated if they lose Vick , Jackson or McCoy they wont win another game. It will be a joke. Thats how thin they are on offense. Its time put Ertz on that field and expand the plabook. ive been saying for years that Celek is shot. He can barely move. That guy is gonna be in a wheelchair. Lets get iley off the field and use Damaris Johnson. We need quick itting passes with our quick players to make the defenses stay honest. Avant cant get seperation fast enough and that Celek interception was on celek. bad pattern and not open. Put Avant as #2 and move Jonson in slot like Wes welker
  • The drop off from the talent from those three to the next guy is substantial. Bryce Brown is in no way McCoy. This roster needs at least 10 quality football players, and two more elite players to contend for anything. I don't know why people are acting so shocked. We knew a long time ago this team was going to struggle. And a message to all of the fools who were on the Gus Bradley tip, and are now so anti Chip Kelly. Your boy Gus HAS DONE NOTHING WITH THE JAGUARS! They quite possibly could be the worst team in football right now. So your comments come up empty, and clearly agenda ridden. If you claim to be an Eagles fan man up and be one. Stop crying and asking where everyone is when you banned them like the coward you truly are.
