Kip Wells tossed seven strong innings for his first win in nearly three years, Chris Denorfia and Alexi Amarista had two hits apiece and the San Diego Padres beat the Colorado Rockies 2-0 on Sunday. Huston Street, named to the NL All-Star team Sunday, pitched a perfect ninth to pick up his 12th save in as many chances. Wells' last win came Sept. 20, 2009, when he beat the Marlins 8-1 as a member of the Cincinnati Reds. He pitched seven innings of five-hit ball that day, and he was just as effective Sunday against the Rockies. Wells (1-1) allowed just six hits, walked two and struck out two in his longest outing since his last win.

Grandal, Amarista, and Wells Lead Padres Over Rockies.

After getting bombed on Friday night, the Padres fought back and beat the Rockies convincingly in two straight games to take the series. Game two showcased Yasmani Grandal’s first big league start, after the demotion of Nick Hundley, and Alexi Amarista and his sudden power surge. But the Padres relied on the arm of 35 year-old Kip Wells on Sunday and were not disappointed as he...

Colorado Rockies shut down by Kip Wells and the San Diego Padres

Pomeranz showed the he belongs in the big leagues.Kip Wells dominated the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field on Sunday. Daily Friar 6.30.12

The Padres are first! First to get to 50 losses in the league. How exciting is that. Congratulations Padres fans, we are the worst team in baseball and we are letting it be known. We got our 50th loss in fitting fashion. Too many mistakes and not enough offense led to a 10-2 loss from the Rockies. This is a team that isn't doing great this season either and we got slaughtered...

Daily Friar 7.2.12

Don't look now, but the Padres are winning series again. They haven't lost a series since the Texas Rangers series. That only makes sense seeing as they are the best team in baseball. But since then we went 2-1 on the Mariners, tied the Astros, and 2-1 against the Rockies. Up next is the Diamondbacks, who we lost a series against last time. The only problem is we are playing...
