PLAYERS: Ted Williams
TEAMS: San Diego Padres
We are not in the breaking news business.  Except for today. The San Diego Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) Chapter (Ted Williams Chapter) will host a Padres Re-Creation Night on August 9th.  Several members of Padres Public are active members of the local SABR chapter. Specifics: The Ted Williams Chapter will present a Radio Broadcast Re-creation on Friday, August 9th, starting at 5:45pm, hosted by the Scripps Ranch Library located at 10301 Scripps Lake Drive, San Diego and presented by the Aramco Group.  Doors to the Auditorium will open at 5:30pm. Long-time Padres announcer and SABR member Bob Chandler will call the action. Chandler will describe the Padres memorable moment in the grand tradition of those announcers who created the game from ticker tape reports and their imagination.  He will re-create nine memorable moments from Padres history.  Chandler’s half-inning re-creation of the events ‘in-studio’ will include sound effects, vivid descriptions, and interview...

Everth Cabrera: All-Star Game MVP (Not Really)

The 2013 MLB All-Star Game has come and gone. Everth Cabrera got a free trip to New York and front row dugout seats to the festivities and game. And that’s about it. Padres shut out of the All-Star Game for the second consecutive year. I hate the 1-per rule, but it still sucks to not see your guy. #PPLive — Vocal Minority (@VocalMinoritySD) July 17, 2013 Bruce Bochy didn’t...

Austin Hedges, Hashtag Swoon

You’re a busy person. You don’t have time to sit and wait for a slow loading flash video player to initialize, only to be followed by more agonizing seconds of intro graphics swooshing across the screen when watching Padres highlights online. And it goes without saying you want to watch them over and over again, staring at and memorized by the screen until you wake up with a...

My First Padres Game

Back in May I wrote a post about taking my now nearly 5-month old daughter to her first Padre game. It was a cool experience and one I’m not likely to forget in my lifetime. However, it occurred to me during that experience that I don’t actually have any memory of my own first Padres game. It’s something I’ve always been jealous of when I hear other fans recall, with such...

A Trip to the Restroom at AT&T Park

Originally published last August, this story chronicles a trip to the restroom at San Francisco’s AT&T Park during Cory Luebke‘s final start before elbow surgery. Three days in a city like San Francisco while watching three baseball games yields so much rich detail that it’s nearly impossible to write about the entire experience. Here’s a very short story about a trip...

Yankees inquired about Padres third basemen Chase Headley

Source: J. Meric/Getty Images North America The New York Yankees inquired about San Diego Padres third basemen Chase Headley. While the Yankees could be welcoming Alex Rodriguez back next week that has not stopped the team from seeking upgrades. Headley, 29, is making $8.575 million this season and will be eligible for arbitration for the final time this winter. The Yankees were...

Padres Pennants

I recently picked up a couple Padres pennants to add to my collection. My goal is to have them all hanging up in my garage one day. Much like most of the other stuff in my stash, I didn’t set out to collect this particular item, it just accumulated over time. Do you have some favorite pennants? Rare ones? Write about it and add a picture in the comments below! ...

Good Times at Padres and Pints

You may have noticed that Padres and Pints now has it’s own section located on the right (A big thank you to Melvin for setting that up for us!). There’s a reason for this, as we currently have quite a few things in the works. Now that all of the past videos have been completed and posted, we are ready to book more new guests. And, as a matter of fact, we have indeed done just...

Padres say Headley is virtually untouchable

The New York Yankees are still desperately looking for a bat to add to their weak lineup but are apparently barking up the wrong trees. Jon Heyman of CBS Sports says the Yankees contacted the San Diego Padres about Chase Headley and were told that he was as close to untouchable as one could be. The Yankees recently called for Padres star third baseman Chase Headley and were told...

What’s That? A Scavenger Hunt, You Say?

Well, alrighty then! Padres Public managed to get their hands on a few free DVD’s of MLB Bloopers Deluxe Doubleheader and Prime 9: MLB Heroics, as detailed in this post on Wednesday. So we’re giving them away to the readers/followers/friends of Padres Public. Some of us are giving them away via Twitter. Some on Facebook. Some are having trivia contests. I have decided to...

Mike Dee: New Padres President and CEO

Well, that didn’t take long. The Padres announced this morning that Mike Dee has been named as the new President and CEO, replacing Tom Garfinkel, who resigned last week. Read the official press releases from both the Padres and the Miami Dolphins along with a story by Padres beat writer Corey Brock of MLB.com. Press Release from the Padres: Padres name Mike Dee President and...

Q&A: Eric Stults, Poor-Man’s Randy Jones

Eric Stults didn’t represent the San Diego Padres in last night’s All-Star Game. He arguably deserved the honor, which is remarkable given where he’s come from. The 33-year-old left-hander was claimed off waivers last May after being released by the White Sox. Three years ago he was pitching for the Hiroshima Toyo Carp. Stults had 8 career wins when he joined the Padres. Last...

Yankees called about Headley but they need to look elsewhere for bats

The Yankees recently called for Padres star third baseman Chase Headley and were told there wasn't a deal to be made, according to people familiar with the brief discussion. While the Padres are willing to listen on any of their players, Headley appears to be about as close as possible to an untouchable player without actually being one. People who have spoken to the Padres...
