Sports Injury Alert:
Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Rob Scuderi left Saturday’s game with a leg injury, potentially a knee injury as per Rob Rossi of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. The injury occurred when Toronto Maple Leafs forward David Clarkson hit Scuderi into the boards. The two players got tangled up and Scuderi fell somewhat awkwardly. He was helped off the ice and did not return. After the game, head coach Dan Bylsma did not provide any significant update.
Scuderi is not the most offensive player. Through the first 11 games of the season, he has one assist. However, he is one the team’s better defensive defenseman. He’s averaging 19:12 this season and kills penalties for the team. The 34-year-old hasn’t missed a game for the Penguins in the last three seasons, so his ironman streak is clearly in jeopardy.
The injury comes right after the Penguins’ defenseman and Scuderi’s partner Kris Letang returned from his own knee injury. Saturday’s game was only Letang’s second of the season. Letang netted...

The Pittsburgh Penguins are banged up all over, and won’t be getting James Neal back out on the ice for at least another week. As in, back out on the ice to practice—something that the top-six winger hasn’t done since October 3 when he was originally injured. The fear of some serious rink rust kicks in at that point.
Being able to skate in a practice and being adjusted to...

Saturday Night the Penguins faced off against the Toronto Maple Leafs. James Reimer managed to make 38 saves as he lead the Leafs to a 4-1 victory in Toronto.
The first period was a tough exchange for who could get the most penalties. For the most part back and forth. There were also goals. The first was scored by Pittsburgh when Pittsburgh's fan favorite Kris Letang buried...
The Pittsburgh Penguins were hoping that defenseman Rob Scuderi wasn't too banged-up after colliding with David Clarkson during Saturday night's Leafs-Penguins game, but they received very bad news on Monday evening:
UPDATE: Rob Scuderi has a broken ankle. Will require surgery later this week. No timetable.

For the Maple Leafs to beat the likes of Sidney Crosby, they must psyche themselves like Sidney Crosby.
That was the message coach Randy Carlyle was pumping to his under-manned team before they met the NHL’s leading scorer, along with the equally dangerous Evgeni Malkin and the rest of the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday night.
Staff and players were on the same page in the 4...
The Penguins dropped their third straight game in regulation to the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-1. Once again the Penguins dominated play for a solid stretch of time but were unable to beat the opposing goaltender.
The Penguins Fenclose% in the game was a very high 63.8%.

Uhhh what happen here?
Total failure by all players involved. First off, this is why Chuck Kobasew is Chuck Kobasew. Gotta get the puck out. Malkin checked out, Niskanen yikes, and Olli Maatta makes his first really, really bad play.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have had plenty of shots on goal in the last three games but not too many have gone in the net.
A lack of goals hasn't been an issue for Pittsburgh in recent matchups with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Some notes and team line combinations for tonight as the Penguins visit Carolina.
Rob Scuderi is still out of action, which is bad news for the Pens.
Also bad news is the Penguins' power play. It's been 1-for-15 in the last three games. Clearly James Neal is missed.

The Penguins come limping into this week with a three-game losing streak. After starting out 7-1 against a ton of terrible hockey teams, the Pens faltered last week against some better teams. The Pens have four games this week, all against decent clubs:
