For those wondering where Anfernee Hardaway has been since retiring from the NBA, he has been back in his hometown of Memphis. Aside from the stray local commercial (he owns a franchise in a local pizza restaurant, I believe) and the stray TNT appearance alongside former teammates Dennis Scott and Shaquille O'Neal, we do not see much of Penny Hardaway. He has been quite active in basketball however, even away from his second home of Orlando. Hardaway bought a piece of the Memphis Grizzlies under new principal owner Robert Pera's group. But the big work Hardaway has done has been in the community he grew up in. Yes, the stories are true. Hardaway is indeed a middle school basketball coach, coaching the very team that he played on when he was growing up in Memphis. There is more to the story though. And that part of the story is developed in CNN writer Wayne B. Drash's book On These Courts. The book chronicles Hardaway's return to Memphis and his middle...

The Memphis Grizzlies Offer Salvation To Old NBA Fans

If you’ve ever encountered the species of former NBA fan-turned-anti-NBA viewer, you have grown familiar with their excuses. Once Michael Jordan left the NBA, many people shut the league out. Maybe Allen Iverson’s tattoos pushed them away. It may have been the game’s tick-tack foul calls that sent them packing. If those things didn’t shut [...]The post The Memphis Grizzlies...

CC video of the day: Marc Gasol steamrolls over NBA ref Kennedy

Grizzlies' Marc Gasol was amped up during a scramble for the ball versus the Thunder in Game 1 of their series late in the game. With the Grizzlies clinging onto a narrow lead and the Thunder charging back, Gasol was fighting for a rebound so much that he went tumbling to the court after trying to save it from sailing out of bounds. However in the process, he took out NBA...

Grizzlies win tough one in OKC

Mike Conley scored 26 points, Marc Gasol added 24 points and the Memphis Grizzlies used a late run to beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 99-93 on Tuesday and even the Western Conference semifinals at one game. Conley hit a 3-pointer from the left wing with 1:58 left to put the Grizzlies ahead to stay and spark a string of 10 straight points for the Grizzlies. He added an 18-foot jumper...

Zach Randolph Says Ibaka & Perkins Are Tougher Than Blake Griffin

While discussing the physicality of the Thunder-Grizzlies series thus far, Zach Randolph took the opportunity to take another subtle shot at Blake Griffin, who he battled in Memphis’ first-round series against the Clippers, calling OKC’s big men, Ibaka and Perkins, tougher than him. According to Jeff Caplan, NBA: And for an extra tweak aimed at the vacationing Griffin, the 6...

Grizzlies Want To Make Durant Work For Everything, Avoid Putting Him On Line

The Memphis Grizzlies are allowing Kevin Durant to average 35.5 points, 13 rebounds and 7.5 assists over the first two games of their series against the Oklahoma city Thunder. “We want to (cut off Durant’s supporting cast), but you still can’t let him get 50," said Lionel Hollins. "We want to make him work and take a lot of shots. We don’t want to put him on the...

Grizzlies Look to Surprise Thunder, Beat Odds for Second Upset of Playoffs

The Memphis Grizzlies turned a lot of heads when they rallied back from down two games in their Western Conference quarterfinal series to knock off the favored Los Angeles Clippers. The victory was a satisfying one as it was against the same L.A. club that bounced them from the postseason in 2012. Now, with the Oklahoma City Thunder on the table, Memphis will need to find a way to...

Grizzlies - Thunder Game Two: Heavyweight Beats Middleweight

Not Game Footage, Honest You might think, from this blog and my general proclivities for all things Warriors, that I can only appreciate racehorse basketball with crazy numbers, Western Conference stuff that's basically the ABA for the 21st century. And you'd be right. But there is an Eastern-style grinder out there that makes old-school hearts race, and everyone they play...
