Now what? Nothing like high priced new acquisitions to come along and automatically miss time due to injury. It’s not like Percy Harvin cost us a first round draft pick or anything right? News broke Tuesday afternoon that Percy Harvin will indeed undergo surgery after getting a second opinion in New York. He isn’t expected to return to action until November at the earliest. While the fans may grumble about the Minnesota connection hurting our chances of what should be a deep run into the playoffs this year, don’t worry Seahawks fans, we are covered at the wide out spot. Harvin will be a huge player to duplicate on the field, but what some of us are forgetting is, we played pretty damn good without him last season. There is still a fellow named Golden Tate running routes for us, as well as Doug Baldwin and what should be a healthy (finally) Sidney Rice. Plus, there is also a guy who got it done for us last year who is still here alive and kicking, Marshawn Lynch. Why we will be fine Percy Harvin will miss 4 months after surgery. (Photo: seattlepi.com) This year we were supposed to be better offensively with the addition of Harvin. Well, that idea is gone, at least for the first few months of the season. What to do now then? Stay the course. The Seahawks are a run heavy team. Lynch can ball better than anybody in the NFC West, plus with the addition of Christine Michael, we will have three very capable runners including Robert Turbin. Oh yeah, and we can’t forget about the guy who makes this offense run properly, Russell Wilson. If he continues to progress on his second half performance last year, this team will be just fine and in position to overpower the division upon Harvin’s return. Did we risk too much on Harvin? The Hawks paid a pretty penny for Percy Harvin this offseason. And besides what we gave up just to get him, we then put a lot of money and years into him: 6 years @$67 million. Harvin was damaged goods to begin with when we acquired him, having been placed on the injured reserve list by the Vikings. That injury subsequently occurred in Seattle, an omen maybe? The good news is, the NFL doesn’t have guaranteed money on contracts. Meaning, if this injury turns into a nagging Franklin Gutierrez issue, the Hawks can cut him no questions asked. Am I predicting this to happen? Not in any way, shape or form. But it is good to know that that insurance is available if needed. What I do expect to happen is, the Hawks will be a great team this year. With or without Percy Harvin. Harvin was supposed to be an addition to an already potent offense which is still getting better even with Harvin out. Do I predict a Super Bowl run? I’m not quite ready to go there yet, but I do see another playoff berth and hopefully a division title. Time will tell, and we will get our first look on the 8th of August.
