PLAYERS: Michael Phelps
Michael Phelps is having more fun at what he insists will be his final Olympics. Several hundred media packed the largest conference room at the Main Press Centre on Thursday for Phelps' last big news conference before the start of the swimming competition in London. When Phelps was in Beijing in 2008, he says he was ''trying to conquer everything.'' Now, even though he's swimming just one fewer event than his eight in China, Phelps says there's a whole different vibe to these games. The other day, Phelps got a kick out of strolling through the Olympic Village and noticing three Russian female athletes - all of them taller than the 6-foot-4-inch swimmer. As he says, ''Geez, I thought I was tall.''

Phelps Will Not March in Opening Ceremony

Just like the last two Olympics, Michael Phelps will not march with Team USA at the Opening Ceremony. Phelps will not march because he has a swimming heat the following morning. Phelps has a heat at 10AM in the 400 IM, one of the most grueling events, and marching and standing around for hours isn't the greatest thing to do when you need to get up early in the morning. "...

Michael Phelps’ official 2012 Olympic Games headshot is stonerrific

Headshot?  More like mugshot…amirite? With much thanks to the always dapper Bob’s Blitz, here is American swimmer Michael Phelps’ official 2012 London Olympic Games headshot.  I understand not shaving because the scruffy look is all hip and now, but how about maybe dragging a comb through that hair Mike?  Maybe make yourself a little more presentable, seeing that you are...

Classic Matchup Set for 400 IM or reign over?

The Olympics are here and the first huge event for the USA is the matchup of the Olympic hero Michael Phelps and rival Ryan Lochte…the problem is the swimmers are not exactly where we expected them to be! Open water swimmer faces wildlife

British swimmer Kerri-Anne Payne had to navigate around a couple of dawdling ducks and fight through tangles of reeds Wednesday as she tried out the Olympic open-water course at Hyde Park. A challenge for a Michael Phelps or Ryan Lochte, maybe. But in the sport known as marathon swimming, live waterfowl and patches of tall grass rank as minor inconveniences. ''I can assure...
