Credit: Tony Dejak/AP Philadelphia Phillies ace Cliff Lee if fed up, and he’s not taking it anymore.  The Phillies are one of the more disappointing teams in baseball thus far, sitting at 13-16 and only ahead of 4 teams in the National League (Cubs, Padres, Mets, and Marlins, who they defeated today).  For a veteran team that has won a World Series within the last 5 years, it’s surprising how Laissez-faire the team is, and Lee is noticing.  According to ESPN.com, Lee has some harsh words after being outscored by the equally disappointing Cleveland Indians 20-2 over two games (one of which Lee pitched and got 0 runs of support): “We have to have a little more pride than that and figure out a way to at least get back into games and make it somewhat competitive. Both games, it was never close.” The Phillies to appear a team who  doesn’t have the fire of their NL East rival Braves, or the exuberant youth of the defending NL East champion Nationals.  Philadelphia fans in any sport usually don’t tolerate athletes going through the motions, I expect this to be no different.  It’s interesting that Cliff Lee will probably play for a contender either way, as a likely trade candidate if the Phillies don’t start putting it together.  If the Phillies don’t seem to make progress this year, it’s probably time to start selling off their aging parts across the board (Rollins, Utley, Howard, Halladay, Papelbon) and start from scratch. Their farm isn’t particularly ripe either, ranked 20th by this assessment and having traded a number of prospects to the Astros for the likes of Hunter Pence and Roy Oswalt. -Dave (@lhd_on_sports) Follow us on Twitter @rbts_baseball The post Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Cliff Lee calls out teammates appeared first on Reading Between The Seams.
