1-0, 1-2, 4-5. Those were the scores the Phillies posted in the weekend series against the Pittsburgh Pirates. 1-0 on Thursday: I was at this game. Think I saw myself high 5ing another Phillies fan on television. I had seat eight row up on the first base line. Roy Halladay was dealing and so was Jonathan Papelbon in his Phillies debut. A Carlos Ruiz sac fly in the seventh inning was the game-winner. 1-2 on Saturday. A rare Wild Pitch by Cliff Lee leads to the Pirates first run of the series. Pirates win in the 10th inning. Alex Presley’s roller to third is beaten out on a bang-bang play and Michael McKenry scores the winning run. 4-5 on Sunday. This one hurt the most. The Phillies took a 4-1 lead in the seventh on Juan Pierre’s two run single. Pirate chip away until Andrew McCutchen singles in the winning run. The Phillies open the season 1-2. They never play well in Pittsburgh, but I will tell you one thing: The better start winning the 1-0, 2-1 and 5-4 games. I hope this is not a ...

Watching Paint Dry As Pirates Win

Cliff Lee pitched well enough to win. The offense was on a different agenda. Source - MLB.comWhat will go down in the books as a Joe Blanton loss actually had nothing to do with the Kentucky chubster.  The Phillies provided free baseball for everyone like it was treat.  Truth be told, this game should not have lasted this long.Call it typical or what to expect this season from...

Presley legs out walk off winner

Final: Pirates 2, Phillies 1 (10 Innings) WP: Juan Cruz (1-0) LP: Joe Blanton (0-1) Rod Barajas led off the bottom of the 10th with a double off the top of the wall. Then, with two outs and pinch-runner Michael McKenry on third base, Alex Presley hit a broken bat grounder toward the hole on the left side. Jimmy Rollins back handed it and made the throw to first, but it wasn’t in...

Iraq war vet Jeremy Feldbusch threw out the first pitch at the Phillies-Pirates game

Inspiring doesn’t even begin to describe the scene on Thursday when Iraq war veteran Jeremy Feldbusch, a former member of the Army Rangers, threw out the ceremonial first pitch at PNC Park before the start of the Phillies-Pirates game.  You see, not only is Feldbusch an army vet, he’s also blind, the result of being hit by shrapnel some nine years ago while serving a tour of...

Good weekend for Pittsburgh: Malkin hits 50 goals, Pirates take down Phillies

As most of the BB&G crew was out and about this weekend unable to post about the fantastic sports weekend we had, I thought I would do a quick review. Pirates: Even though the Pirates lost the home opener to Philadelphia on Thursday, 1-0 they bounced back in spectacular fashion.  They took down the Phillies on Saturday night in the 10th inning after Rod Barajas doubled to center...

Padres acquire Brian Tallet from the Pirates

The 0-3 San Diego Padres have acquired left-handed pitcher Brain Tallet from the Pirates, Corey Brock of MLB.com reports. Tallet will report to Triple-A initially but will probably be called up at some point this season, and just like must pitchers on the decline that land in San Diego, he will probably pitch lights out and revitalize his career. The Pirates will either receive cash...

It doesn't get any easier

After opening up the season against Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee, today the Pirates head out to LA to face Clayton Kershaw in the Dodgers' home opener. Kershaw is easily one of the best pitchers the Pirates will see this year and he's pretty much in a class with only Halladay and Justin Verlander in terms of every single pitcher the Pirates will face this year. The one saving...
