Those were the scores the Phillies posted in the weekend series against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
1-0 on Thursday: I was at this game. Think I saw myself high 5ing another Phillies fan on television. I had seat eight row up on the first base line. Roy Halladay was dealing and so was Jonathan Papelbon in his Phillies debut. A Carlos Ruiz sac fly in the seventh inning was the game-winner.
1-2 on Saturday. A rare Wild Pitch by Cliff Lee leads to the Pirates first run of the series. Pirates win in the 10th inning. Alex Presley’s roller to third is beaten out on a bang-bang play and Michael McKenry scores the winning run.
4-5 on Sunday. This one hurt the most. The Phillies took a 4-1 lead in the seventh on Juan Pierre’s two run single. Pirate chip away until Andrew McCutchen singles in the winning run.
The Phillies open the season 1-2. They never play well in Pittsburgh, but I will tell you one thing: The better start winning the 1-0, 2-1 and 5-4 games.
