Los Angeles Angels
According to ESPN's Jayson Stark, the Phillies have signed right-hander Joel Piñeiro to a minor-league deal. The deal is reportedly included with an invite to spring training. The 33 year-old is a 12-year veteran is who has played for the Seattle Mariners, Boston Red Sox, St. Louis Cardinals, and most recently, the Los Angeles Angels.
Over Piñeiro's 12 year career, he has racked up a career record of 104-93. Along with a career 4.41 ERA, he also holds a career WHIP of 1.348. Last season, Piñeiro started 24 games for the Angels going 7-7 with a 5.13 ERA in 145.2 innings pitched. Although he spent time on the DL for shoulder tightness in 2011, Piñeiro is still a solid pick up for the Phillies.
Excerpt from Stark's column.
The Phillies have been looking for starting pitching depth behind their projected rotation of Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels, Joe Blanton, and Vance Worley. Blanton was limited to eight starts and three relief appearances, totaling 41 1/3 innings, last season because of elbow tightness.
With Piñerio's signing, it does not guarentee him a spot on the big league roster, but it does set in a question on the status of the fifth man in the Phillies' starting rotation. With Vance Worley's outstanding season last year and Kyle Kendrick's recent contract, the Phillies could be adding Piñeiro for bullpen help, or may be adding depth to their rotation.

Jim Thome, at 41 years-old, is in the best shape of his life. Perhaps in better shape than most younger players in the league today. It's pretty amazing to think that a guy who has had so many health problems when the Phillies traded him to the White Sox seven years ago, could be in such great shape today. Maybe it was the journey of chasing 600 home runs. Whatever is causing...
The Boston Red Sox suffered an all-time meltdown in 2011, missing the playoffs despite having what looked to be a stellar roster on paper. This offseason has seen a ton of change in Beantown as the Theo Epstein and Terry Francona are gone, and there has been an attempt to change the culture of the team.
On Monday the Red Sox inked a deal with Vicente Padilla, and MLB.com’s...

The Philadelphia Phillies have signed Joel Pineiro to a minor-league deal, Jayson Stark of ESPN reports. The deal includes an invite to Spring Training.
Pineiro spent the past two seasons with the Angels completing a two-year $16mm deal he signed prior to the 2010 season.
He went 7-7 with a 5.13 ERA last season and spent time on the disabled list because of shoulder tightness.

The Phillies have agreed to sign Joel Pineiro to a minor league contract, reports ESPN's Jayson Stark. The Wasserman Media Group client also received an invitation to Spring Training.
Maikel Franco took home the #9 spot in comfortable fashion, gliding past Julio Rodriguez. Today we round out the top 10, and then we move forward. Roman Quinn and Lisalberto Bonilla will be added this round, replacing Franco and Mitchell Walding. The Mitchell Walding thing is really weird. People write him in, then he gets added and no one votes for him. Anyway.

Every day this month, we here at Philthy Stuff will be counting down the New Year's resolutions of each member on the Phillies, and what they can do to guide this team back to October. Next up, Hunter Pence.
One of the chief concerns about this Phillies team heading into 2011 was a lack of power from the right side of the plate. It was a legitimate concern -- the Phillies had...
