The image you see above of gymnast Nastia Liukin is the type of photo that we are accustomed to seeing in the months leading up to the Olympic Games. The athletes typically strike various poses against simple backgrounds. Oftentimes, the athlete will be standing in front of their country’s flag. It is the Olympics, after all.
On particular photographer, Joe Klamar, decided to switch things up a bit at the USOC media summit back in May. Now, he’s being ripped for it. Klamar took photos of various U.S. athletes in front of unusual backgrounds with strange color shadings. The images themselves are difficult to describe, so here are a few examples:
These photos have not been well-received. Here is an example of the type of feedback Klamar’s work has been subject to on Reddit and other social media sites.
“wow… he’s trying something new for press shots, concealing some details in shadows… using FOV and perspective to distort subjects in a not-so appealing way… Oh wait, these haven’t...

Subway spokeswoman Nastia Liukin is one of the more popular past U.S. Olympic athletes around. She’s one of the faces of the USA gymnastics franchise, and one of the most successful competitors in Beijing 2008. But despite all her medals, she’s not making the Olympic team this summer.

Here is the video of former USA Olympian gymnast Nastia Liukin falling off the uneven bars and doing a face plant during the 2012 Olympic Trials in San Jose, California.Liukin will most likely not make the USA team this year and go to the Olympics in London. She took a hard fall and composed herself immediately and went back on the bars again. She received a nice ovation from the fans.
Nastia Liukin took a nasty face-plant off the uneven bars at the 2012 Olympic Trials this past week, and the video is glorious. I have seen some good wipe-outs during my time, but this one is her falling DIRECTLY on her face which makes for a solid viral video. In the face! In good news, she wasn’t hurt badly except a minor bruise to her ego.

Nastia Liukin went out with a bang on Sunday. The only problem is that it wasn't necessarily a positive. That bang was actually the sound of her faceplanting on the uneven bars during the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Team Trials, meaning she likely won't participate in this summer's London Olympics. The fall led to a lackluster score of 13.950 and subsequently a 10th place...

Nastia Liukin's bid to become the first defending Olympic women's gymnastics champion to return to the ensuing games since 1980 ended Sunday night after she struggled to get through her bars routine during the final night of the U.S. trials.
The five-time Olympic medalist, hindered by shoulder injuries during her year-long comeback, slammed into the mat midway through her...
It was excruciating to watch. Apart from the chilling thud, seeing a young woman’s hopes and dreams crumble before my eyes was heart wrenching. I’m sure it felt exponentially worse for Nastia Liukin, lying face down on a mat in front of millions of people, Olympic dream vaporized. Then, something extraordinary happened. She got up, jumped back on the uneven bars and finished...
