The 2013 season has been a year of streaks. First, we witnessed Chicago's remarkable run of 24 consecutive games with a point. Now we're watching the Pittsburgh Penguins burn through NHL opponents, winning 10 consecutive games. The Penguins need just one more win to match Chicago's 11-game winning streak . With the Penguins bearing down on the best winning streak of 2013, it's time to take a look back at their efforts to date.  The Penguins were able to push their run to 10 games with a 2-1 victory over the Washington Capitals. The win, which was also their eighth consecutive win at home, gave the Penguins a commanding 14-point lead in the Atlantic division.  Since their streak started back on March 2nd, the Penguins have won eight games in regulation, one in OT and one in a shootout. They've recorded 39 goals while allowing only 23. As the streak has persisted, the Penguins have only improved on defense. In the first four games of their run, the Penguins were scored on 17 times, but were still able to pull out victories. Since then, the club has worked on their defense and only allowed six goals in six games.  As you might imagine, a team needs their special teams to perform well in order to pull out a 10-game streak. In Pittsburgh's case, only half of that statement is true. The Penguins currently own the NHL's 3rd best power play (24.4%), but surprisingly own the NHL's 20th best PK unit (79.6%).  Will the Penguins match Chicago's 11-game winning streak? We'll find out when they take on the Islanders on Friday, the 22nd.  [follow]
