League rules prevented the Pittsburgh Steelers from being able to let go of running back Chris Rainey — who was arrested on charges of slapping his girlfriend last month — until after the Super Bowl. However, the additional time didn’t change the organization’s decision.  As Bob Labriola of Steelers.com reports, Rainey was officially released by the team on Monday, the first day he was eligible to be dropped from the roster. In his rookie year, Rainey ran for 102 yards with two touchdowns on 26 carries and added 14 receptions for 60 yards with the Steelers.  In the return game, the 5-9, 180-pound Rainey also averaged 5.3 yards (16 total yards) on three punt returns and gained 1,035 yards on 39 kick returns (26.5 yards per return). NFL rules, however, prevented the...

Steelers’ Offense is in Serious Trouble

The more I look at last season the more ticked I get about the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 8-8 record. Clearly this team was better than that and there is enough blame to fill a ballroom. Unfortunately, when I start looking at the Steelers’ offense in 2013 I can’t say my anger subsides very much. Let’s consider what the holes the offense has to fill as we sit here in early February...

Ravens Super Bowl Win Bad for Nation, Great for Steelers

Having had a chance to digest what I admit was a very entertaining and bizarre Super Bowl, here is what I think: Let’s just get this out of the way up front. No self-respecting, card-carrying Citizen of the original sports nation can say they are happy with how this Super Bowl played out. The ravens winning their second Super Bowl by beating the San Francisco 49ers means that we...

Steelers Officially Place RB Chris Rainey On Waivers

Bob Labriola reports that the Pittsburgh Steelers have officially placed RB Chris Rainey on waivers today. Rainey was arrested back in January for allegedly pulling his girlfriend out of a car and slapping her across the face. He recently pleaded no contest to the charges of disorderly conduct. The Steelers took Rainey in the fifth-round of last year’s draft, but didn’t...

A female Pittsburgh Steelers fan dared to show up at the Tuesday victory parade for the Baltimore Ravens, who beat the San Francisco 49ers Sunday in Super Bowl XLVII to capture their second Lombardi trophy, and was treated just as you would expect her to be treated. Steelers still have unfinished business with Ravens

Pittsburgh Steelers fans nearly had their prayers answered when a power surge caused a partial power failure during the third quarter of the Super Bowl. However the failure only lasted approximately 15 minutes. When action resumed, despite a valiant effort by the San Francisco 49ers, the Baltimore Ravens managed to hold on and win their second title in team history. Much to the...
