EDMONTON – So what took the Avs so long to bring this Mark Olver kid up from the minors?
Seriously, not a bad way to make your season debut the way Olver did for the Avs tonight. A goal, assist, a couple of big hits – a fine debut indeed.
Olver posted nine points in 18 games last year, and drew good marks for his hustle and physical game. He’s definitely not a big guy, but plays a tough game. Trouble is, he’s got a concussion history, and missed the first half of the season with one. He’ll always face questions about his size, but plenty of big guys have or have gotten concussions. When it comes to concussions, size doesn’t matter (sorry).
Anyway, he was a nice, feelgood story to write about tonight. The Avs didn’t play a very good first 10 minutes tonight, but played a very solid game after that and deserved the two points for sure.
Other observations from tonight:
- Just a great game from Ryan O’Reilly. He really stepped it up tonight in a must-win situat...
