After winning the Atlantic Division, finishing first in the Eastern Conference and coming to within two wins of making it to the Stanley Cup Final since 1994, the New York Rangers came into this season as Stanley Cup contenders. Throw in the fact that they had a Vezina Trophy winning goaltender between the pipes, traded for power forward Rick Nash and had the same defensive corps. the Blueshirts were in more than good position to win a Cup this year. Unfortunately, nothing good has come from any of the above mentioned things for the Blueshirts this year. After losing 4-3 at Madison Square Garden tonight to the Winnipeg Jets, the team finds themselves in 11th place in the Eastern Conference. Sure, the Rangers are just one point out of the eighth spot but based on the way the team has played over the last week and a half, it certainly does not seem that way, right? Tonight's game was a perfectly winnable situation for the Rangers, despite being depleted with injuries. With t...

Milan Lucic Defends His Hit on Rick Nash, Bruins’ ‘Hard-Nosed’ Style of Hockey

Milan Lucic is one tough hombre on one of the NHL’s toughest teams, and that’s something that has led to a target on the back of Lucic and the rest of the Bruins. However, it’s also tough to argue with the fact that the physical style of play that Lucic and the B’s play is successful. The 2011 Stanley Cup champions were one of the roughest, toughest teams in the NHL, and...

The Rangers’ Powerless Play

The 2013 New York Rangers are a disappointment so far during this lockout shortened NHL season. Coming off an impressive overachieving season where the Rangers finished first in the east and reached the conference finals, expectations were raised over the summer when the Rick Nash trade was consummated. Nash, plus a full year of Chris Kreider, [...]

The Rangers have sent Chris Kreider back to the AHL’s Connecticut Whale, a move that was widely expected once the Rangers got healthy. Kreider was sent down last week, but was immediately recalled due to the Rick Nash “concussion” and played while he was out. With Nash back, Kreider can return to the Whale to work on his play without the puck. It is important for Kreider to...

Where's The Offense?

Not sure how it's possible for a team to be dependent on a player who's scored just three goals in 14 games this season, but that's just what's happened to the Rangers. In the three games since Rick Nash was injured, Rangers forwards have scored exactly one goal (Ryan Callahan). That's right, in the last nine periods, one goal from Rangers forwards. Just let...
