Buzz On Broad:
As we all know, yesterday the Philadelphia Flyers have named Claude Giroux the organization's 19th Captain. The team's previous Captain, Chris Pronger is still suffering from severe post concussion syndrome. Unfortunately it looks like Pronger's NHL career may be coming to an end. Wishing Chris the best of luck with his health, where there is an end, there is a beginning.
Chris Pronger released these statements, courtesy of Anthony SanFilippo from the Flyers website:
“It’s well deserved.”
“He’s obviously a very important part of the team and a guy that all the guys in that locker room are looking toward.
“As I’ve said in the past, and numerous other players have said in the past, he’s not the only guy in that room that’s a leader. He’s got a lot of help from Kimmo [Timonen] and Danny [Briere] and [Scott Hartnell] and it goes up and down the lineup.
“[Giroux’s] obviously a guy that has to grow into it. The biggest thing he can do is lead by example – come and practice hard and play the game hard – That sets the example for everyone else and they all fall in line behind him.”
The Flyers have also announced today that they have placed newly acquired goaltender Brian Boucher and Andreas Lilja on waivers.Under the new CBA there are no re-entry waivers so the Flyers could call these veterans back up without risk. Lilja is the eight defenseman, and with the signing of Kurtis Foster, it looks like he will be heading to Adirondack once the season begins.

The NHL needs a “previously on” recap before games, I guess.Hockey’s been gone so long, even the networks airing hockey games don’t remember what happened the last time the NHL was in season. They know the Kings won the Stanley Cup. Their logo has a basketball on it for some reason, right? They know Wayne Gretzky’s daughter has an Instagram account and a fantastic body...
