Oakland Raider GM Reggie Mackenzie says he inherited a roster with “out-of-whack” contracts, and we went to work trying to unravel the mess when he cam aboard, writes Steve Corkran of the Contra Costa Times. Soon after as he was hired, he cut Stanford Routt and linebacker Kamerion Wimbley, but decided to bring DE Richard Seymour back for another year, something that haunts the team as they look at the salary cap for next season. He only played 8 games in 2012, but might as well sat out all 16, as he had little to no impact on the field. Now Seymour counts for almost $14 million in so-called “dead money," almost one-eighth of their 2013 $121 million salary cap is going to come from Seymour’s voided contract. With that, tough decisions lie ahead for the Raiders and their efforts to cut costs. Two targets for cutting or restructuring would be wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey and defensive tackle Tommy Kelly. Cutting these two veterans would free up $10 million in cap space, ...
