Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports writes that the Raiders are in a “brutal situation” regarding RB Darren McFadden.
McFadden missed Sunday’s game against Baltimore because of an ankle sprain, but his 2012 season isn’t anywhere near the expectations that many had for him back in August. A lot of his struggles can be attributed to the team’s zone-blocking scheme, which they changed a few weeks ago against the Chiefs. McFadden subsequently ran for 114 yards in that game.
Cole adds that unless the Raiders start to adjust their offensive to better suit McFadden, “they would be better off trading him in the offseason.”
McFadden is under contract through the 2013 season, so the team could always choose to wait and address his contract at a later point in time. If McFadden puts together a decent string of games to end the season and is able to carry over that performance into next season, the Raiders could always elect to franchise him.
