PLAYERS: Ian Kinsler
TEAMS: Texas Rangers
Bd
ARLINGTON, Texas Ian Kinsler grimaced in the ninth inning Tuesday night while scoring a run for the Texas Rangers in the 5-4 loss to Pittsburgh. The reason for the grimace is a mystery though. The good news for the Rangers is that Kinsler was back in the starting lineup Wednesday at designated hitter. Manager Ron Washington wouldn't say what's ailing Kinsler but did say that Kinsler needed to be the DH Wednesday. Washington said that, plus the off day Thursday, should be enough rest to have him back at second base for Friday's series opener against Oakland. As for what's bugging Kinsler? "Everyone has problems this time of year and it's something I have to maintain and make sure it doesn't get worse than it is," Kinsler said. "It's a thing. I'm fine."

Rangers' Ian Kinsler's "above the ankle, below the neck" injury

Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler was shown wincing on TV during the ninth inning Tuesday night because of an undisclosed injury according to Aaron Gleeman of NBC Sports. Kinsler said Wednesday morning that it's "no problem." He did need a day as the designated hitter for Wednesday's game vs Pittsburgh, he said, but should be fine after the Rangers' off...

Woman poses next to what must be a Sammy Sosa wax scultpure … wait, what? (photo)

I’m not sure why this story is considered newsworthy, but a photo of a young woman posing next to a wax sculpture of former Chicago Cubs slugger Sammy Sosa is making its way around the Internet. Sure, Sosa’s ill-conceived Pinterest page was hilarious and warranted attention, but this pic? Strange. I have to say that […]The post Woman poses next to what must be a Sammy Sosa...

Texas Rangers-branded breakfast

A question for Texas Rangers fans: Even if you are unwilling to leggo your Eggo and insist that they’ll have to pry your Aunt Jemima pancakes from your cold dead hands, do you still feel like your pre-made breakfast items are holding you back from truly supporting your favorite major league baseball team? If so, […]The post There are Texas Rangers-branded waffles and pancakes...

Nelson Cruz begins workouts in preparation for possible return

Nelson Cruz serving a 50-game suspension through the end of the regular season for using performance-enhancing drugs began working out at the Rangers’ facility in Surprise Ariz. on Wednesday. He is a strong candidate to make the postseason roster should the Rangers get that far. Cruz went through full defensive drills and batting practice with the players who are on injury rehab...

Rangers pitcher Matt Harrison having his third surgery of the year

The 2013 season looked to be a promising one for Texas Rangers pitcher Matt Harrison. Coming off a year during which he went 18-11 with a 3.29 ERA, the 27-year-old left-hander got the opening day start for the Rangers and looked to be a top starting pitcher for a team looking to win the AL West and return to the World Series. Unfortunately, the season didn't play out that...

Ransgers' Yu Darvish (leg cramps) likely to make next start

After pitching brilliantly for seven innings for the Texas Rangers, starting pitcher Yu Darvish left Monday night's game in the eighth inning with cramp-like symptoms. ESPN Dallas's Todd Wills reports that Darvish started to feel the cramp beginning in the seventh inning of the Rangers' 1-0 loss to Pittsburgh, but the discomfort did not affect his pitching. The Rangers...

Sharp Darvish and Rangers lose 1-0 to Pirates

Yu Darvish again resembled the dominating pitcher the Texas Rangers are going to need him to be during the pennant chase. That still wasn't enough to get a victory. Darvish allowed consecutive two-out doubles in the seventh, then didn't come back out for the eighth because of cramping in his right leg. The Rangers lost 1-0 to rookie right-hander Gerrit Cole as the Pittsburgh...

Another September slide for Rangers, with A's next

(Eds: APNewsNow. With AP Photos.) By STEPHEN HAWKINS AP Sports Writer The Texas Rangers are sliding in September again, heading into their final series against Oakland. Despite losing nine of their last 12 games, the Rangers still have a tight hold on the AL's top wild-card spot. But that slump has taken them from a three-game lead in the AL West to three games behind the A...

Slumping Rangers rally, but lose 5-4 to Pirates

The Texas Rangers already had four straight two-out singles in the ninth inning, putting the potential tying run at third base for Adrian Beltre. The slugger struck out on three pitches, though, and the Rangers kept sliding with a 5-4 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night. ''It's just a matter of getting a hit in the right situation. We just haven't been...

Rangers swept in 3 games by Pirates after 7-5 loss

The slumping Texas Rangers need a day off. And they're getting one after losing their fourth consecutive series, getting swept after the Pittsburgh Pirates won 7-5 Wednesday in the finale of a three-game interleague matchup of wild-card leaders. ''We'll be fine,'' second baseman Ian Kinsler said. ''We've got an off day and then come back ready...

Lack of offense costing Rangers

In the American League wild card race, conventional wisdom and consensus number-crunching have pointed to the same conclusion: The West's second-place team -- the A's or Rangers -- will claim one bid. The Rays, Orioles, Indians and Yankees should decide the other. After watching the Rangers' 5-4 loss to Pittsburgh Tuesday night, I'm not so sure. Unless Texas halts...
