ARLINGTON, Texas The apparent problems with the baseballs during Friday Texas Rangers game against Los Angeles apparently only impacted C.J. Wilson. None of the five Texas pitchers used in the game had any issues with slippery balls, which Wilson complained about following the game. "I can't tell you I noticed any difference with the balls," said Texas reliever Tanner Scheppers. "You normally deal with that in cold weather. I've never really experienced that here in Texas." Texas manager Ron Washington said he was made aware of Wilson's issues with the balls during the game by home plate umpire Mike DiMuro during the game. A Texas official said the team provides 12 dozen balls to the umpires, who inspect them before they are ready for play. "He (DiMuro) mentioned to us that C.J. thought the balls weren't rubbed up properly," Washington said. "We tried to accommodate him. We came to Hoggy (clubhouse manager Richard Price). I'...

Suspended Nelson Cruz will be on Rangers roster for tiebreaker

On Sunday, Texas Rangers general manager Jon Daniels confirmed that outfielder Nelson Cruz will be activated for Monday’s tie-breaker game against the Tampa Bay Rays. Cruz completed his 50-game suspension for the use of performance-enhancing drugs in Sunday’s season finale. While Cruz will be on the roster, it will be up to manager Ron Washington whether or not the 33-year-old...

Texas Rangers: On a path to the Wild Card

The Texas Rangers have been playing playoff quality ball this week. Lets take a look back at how far they have come and what they still have ahead of them. Texas had a 3 game series against the Houston Astros in the beginning of the week. If they were ever going to make a last push for playoffs it had to start on Monday. Texas bore down and swept the Astros winning 12-0, 3-2, and...

Rangers show 'heart, fight, grit' to force wildcard tiebreaker

ARLINGTON, Texas When the Rangers started their final homestand of the season last Monday, there was little hope of them making a playoff push. They had fallen behind the Cleveland Indians and the Tampa Bay Rays in the wildcard race, so most of the talk was about who might be fired after the season. Even a visit from the woeful Houston Astros didn't offer any guarantees. The...

Profar’s walk-off homer in ninth keeps Rangers close in wildcard hunt

Baseball it is often said is a funny game and nights like Thursday give life to that adage. The kind of laughter rolling through Rangers Ballpark though varied from the kind that comes with disbelief to the kind that would put a man in the nuthouse to at the end both. Somehow the Texas Rangers managed to have the last laugh when one swing of Jurickson Profar’s bat kept hope alive...

Washington's switch to Jurickson Profar could be reason Rangers sneak into playoffs

If the Rangers sneak into the American League playoffs by one win they can point to the moment when manager Ron Washington remembered rookie Jurickson Profar was still around. Profar led off the ninth inning with a pinch-hit homer that gave the Rangers a 6-5 win over the Los Angeles Angels at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington on Thursday night. It was only the second at-bat for Profar...

Rangers force AL wild-card tiebreaker, beat Angels

The Texas Rangers forced a one-game tiebreaker for the second AL wild-card spot, winning their seventh in a row Sunday when Geovany Soto hit a tiebreaking RBI double and later homered to beat the Los Angeles Angels 6-2. The Rangers (91-71) added game No. 163 to the regular season, and will host Tampa Bay on Monday night. The winner plays two days later at wild card leader Cleveland...

Angels-Rangers game Saturday moved up to beat rain

The playoff-chasing Texas Rangers are now trying to beat the rain. The starting time of Saturday's home game against the Los Angeles Angels has been moved up to 11:05 a.m. Central, which would be the earliest start ever at Rangers Ballpark. Game 162 is not the end

Yu Darvish was set to take the mound in the team’s final regular season game with postseason hopes still very much alive.  Texas had swept the Astros and battled rain to beat the Angels in three out of three games. They just needed one more to finish strong. And Yu did his part. He gave up a two-out homer in the 1st to Mike Trout.  After that, he settled down for the next several...

Angels get beat on walk-off HR in Texas again 6-5

Reliever Michael Kohn and the Los Angeles Angels can't seem to end a rather strange streak. Texas pinch-hitter Jurickson Profar homered leading off the ninth, and the Rangers beat the Angels with a walk-off homer for the fourth straight time at home in a 6-5 victory Thursday night. Kohn (1-4) was on the mound for the last two, having surrendered Adrian Beltre's winning...

Angels’ and Rangers’ Game Ends in a Familiar Fashion

Jerome Williams and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim faced Matt Garza and the Texas Rangers in what would be a nail-biter throughout all nine innings. The scoring would start in the 1st inning where Mike Trout would ground into a force out scoring J.B. Shuck. Texas would come back very quickly with a Adrian Beltre single scoring Ian Kinsler, an A.J. Pierzynski single scoring Elvis...

Rangers beat Angels, 5-3; gain ground on Tampa

The American League wild-card standings show two teams tied at the top and another one a game back that could wedge itself into a three-day three-game scramble to reach a division series. The Texas Rangers though are looking only at what they can control. That’s winning ballgames which they did again Friday night by scoring two runs in the seventh inning to knock off the Los Angeles...
