PLAYERS: Alexi Ogando
TEAMS: Texas Rangers
After dealing with a groin injury, Alexi Ogando pitched in only 58 games.  He was a starter in 2011, and it seems he will be heading back to the rotation again this year.  The Rangers are looking to reload after a disappointing finish to the 2012 season.  Ogando's return to the rotation could help them get back on track. According to T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com, the Rangers' moving Ogando to the rotation may be just the start of their offseason plans.  Neftali Feliz, who was added to the rotation this season, went down with a torn ulnar colateral ligament.  He underwent Tommy John surgery and is expected to miss the first part of next season. Ogando, as part of a rotation that includes Yu Darvish, Colby Lewis, Feliz, and Derek Holland, could help the Rangers have one of the best rotations in all of baseball.  He posted a 3.27 ERA this past season after posting a 3.51 ERA in 2011 as a starter. The only concern the Rangers may have is Ogando's health.  With his injury this season and Texas' experience with moving pitcher in and out of the rotation, there could be a real issue with Ogando's durability.  Texas has generally shied away from innings limits, but it is something they may have to consider with Ogando - and with Feliz when he comes back. Brick by brick, Texas Rangers rebuilding rotation

The Texas Rangers are set in reinserting Alexi Ogando into the starting rotation for 2013, after using him as a bullpen weapon in 2012.  Texas seemed to have plenty of arms going into 2012, but with some injuries to Neftali Feliz (won’t be ready by 2013 opening day) and some ineffectiveness by arms that had been consistent in the two World Series seasons, their team ERA found...

Rangers Make Qualifying Offer to Josh Hamilton, but Sides are Not Close to a Deal

Josh Hamilton and the Texas Rangers are inching closer to divorce.  As expected, Texas has made a qualifying offer to Hamilton.  However, the sides are about $4.5 million apart, and it's not likely that the Rangers will close the gap. It's time to prepare for life without Hamilton

In the aftermath of "The Drop" in Oakland and subsequent 0-for-4 performance in the AL wild-card game, it was hard to find anyone who wanted to re-sign Josh Hamilton. Never mind that he played an enormous role in back-to-back trips to the World Series and won an AL MVP award for the Rangers. The mercurial Hamilton became the face of the Rangers' pitiful September collapse...

Mike Napoli Does Not Receive a Qualifying Offer from Rangers

While teammate Josh Hamilton received a qualifying offer from the Texas Rangers, Mike Napoli did not.  A qualifying offer would have been around $13.3 million.  The Rangers made the decision that they didn't feel Napoli was worth that.  This does not mean he won't return to Texas.  It simply means, the Rangers will try to sign him for less. According to Mac Engel...

The Texas Rangers have made a $13.3 million qualifying offer to Josh Hamilton, ensuring them draft-pick compensation if the slugger signs with another team. General manager Jon Daniels said Friday that the team isn't making the same offer to Mike Napoli, though there is mutual interest of the catcher returning to the Rangers. Napoli made $9.4 million this season. Hamilton,...

Rangers switching base coaches Pettis, Anderson

The Texas Rangers are flip-flopping their base coaches, moving Gary Pettis to third and Dave Anderson to first. Manager Ron Washington believes Pettis' base-running prowess as a player will allow him to react more quickly and possibly take more chances, allowing the Rangers to potentially score more runs. Pettis, who had 354 stolen bases in 14 major league seasons, has been...

Magadan takes over as Rangers' hitting coach

In nearly 18 months as the Rangers' hitting instructor, Scott Coolbaugh oversaw an offense that ranked first in the majors in runs per game, batting average, slugging percentage and on-base-plus-slugging percentage. This would normally be enough to get a coach a raise. Instead it got him reassigned. Acknowledging something -- even if it wasn't clearly identifiable --...
