With the Rangers trading away this year's first and second round picks in the Rick Nash & Ryane Clowe trades respectively, Gordie Clark and his crew are going to be twiddling their thumbs for a long time before finally using the first of the Blueshirts three third round picks during tomorrow's draft. But Clark still has a game plan going into the day (via Blueshirts United)... "This is the first time in my career I have had to wait so long to make a pick. But these are still important picks. The difference is that in the first round we tend to take the best player available regardless of position. Here we can think more about filling a need in the organization. For example we are a little light on defense because all of our young (defensemen) are already in the NHL for the most part. So that is one area we would target. And seeing if we can find a possible future No. 1 goaltender, as well." ...it's about time the Rangers start thinking about drafting the heir apparent to Lundqvist. The organizational depth at goaltender is virtually non-existent. ...as far as drafting defensive depth, you can never have enough. Very doubtful the Rangers are going to find an impact offensive player in the third round and beyond so it sounds like forwards are at the bottom of their wish list. Here's more Clark on the draft... Meanwhile, Leslie Treff at Hockey's Future notes that the Rangers might look to obtain a high risk/high reward offensive defenseman. She feels one or more may still be available in the third round.   I'm not even going to pretend I know who may be available for the Rangers in the third round, so if you want to take a look at the 2013 draft prospects rankings, click here. The Rangers have three picks in the third round (numbers 65, 75, and 80), a fourth rounder (number 110) and a sixth round selection (number 170).
