Are you a female? Do you live in New York City or somewhere thereabouts? Do you think you might like hockey, but you don’t really know what it’s all about? Is your boyfriend a hockey nut? Or are you a female sports fan who likes to be insulted?
Well, the New York Rangers might have you covered if you answered yes to any, some of or all of those seemingly stupid questions.
The Rangers’ official blog, Blueshirts United, which is posted on their official website, is trying something new. According to an editor’s note on one of the most recent posts, “Blueshirts United has added a contributor network where additional writers from outside the organization will share their thoughts and perspective. This is the first of these articles.”
It may also be the last. Within an hour of posting “A Girl’s Guide to Watching the Rangers,” the self-explanatory post had vanished.
However, we were able to grab a couple of snippets before the Rangers killed the story (for now) as well as the tweet that r...
BEST OF MAXIM
AROUND THE WEB
The Rangers have recalled forward Benn Ferriero from the CT Whale for tonight’s game against Toronto. Ferriero, who was acquired this week from Pittsburgh in exchange for Chad Kolarik, has 92 games of NHL experience –all with San Jose– putting together a line of 14-8-22 with 25 PIMs. Since it is expected that Chris Kreider is going to return to the lineup tonight, this move...
#NYR rookie Chris Kreider day to day with a bone chip in his ankle. Had an MRI yesterday. Will be off ice at least for a couple of days. — Andrew Gross (@AGrossRecord) January 26, 2013 … a real shame but glad they were able to find the bone chip before putting him back [...]
We need to see more celebrating from the Rangers PP unit – and soon
The Rangers need to get their powerplay to at least an acceptable standard and soon – otherwise it threatens to derail a hugely promising season. Already in this young but abbreviated season we’ve seen the Rangers powerplay, despite the addition of an elite talent in Rick Nash, fail to come through in crucial...
Kris Newbury was returned to Connecticut after last night’s 2-1 loss to the Flyers. In his one game cameo, Newbury played seven shifts for just five minutes of ice time. He also fought Tye McGinn and was charged an extra two minutes for roughing. This likely means that Chris Kreider will dress against the Leafs on Saturday.
Even today I'm still in disbelief at the Rangers decision to post their infamous "Girls' Guide to Watching Rangers Hockey." Hearing Rangers will now be forcing female fans to take a Blueshirts knowledge test before allowing them into MSG. Better start studying that guide ladies.
In all seriousness, man you women were pissed yesterday. And I don't blame you...
An article promoted by the New York Rangers entitled 'A Girl’s Guide to Watching the Rangers' was met with predictable backlash, so much so that they decided to take it down.
There’s been a lot of talk about how the Rangers are 1-3-0 to start the season. There’s a lot of panicking because the Rangers have generally looked flat and rusty, and that since this is a shorter season they can’t afford to be losing games like these this. Yes, every game means the same in the standings, but not all games are created equal. It’s like face offs, even if...
John Tortorella on the power play (via Bergen Record)...
“It’s just too deliberate and we’re simply not getting enough big plays from our top guys in that situation. That’s the frustrating part. You think you may be able to steal a point if we get something there.”
...that quote right there shows Torts has no idea what he's doing on the power play. They don...
from the New York Post,
The Rangers — who posted an article on their website yesterday many viewed as sexist — quickly yanked the story less than an hour later after a flood of negative comments.
The posting, which appeared in slideshow form, was entitled “A Girl’s Guide to Watching the Rangers” and gave words of advice to female fans on how to watch a hockey game...
TOMORROW’S GAME: The Rangers will begin a three-game homestand when they face-off against the Toronto Maple Leafs tomorrow at Madison Square Garden (7:00 p.m. — TV: MSG Plus; Radio: Bloomberg Radio), in an Original Six matchup. The Blueshirts enter tomorrow’s contest with a 1-3-0 (2 pts) record, following a 2-1 loss against the Flyers on Thursday [...]
Via Darren Dreger, the Rangers have agreed to terms with veteran center Jason Arnott on a one year deal worth between 1.6-1.7 million. More to come as details become available, but considering the Rangers’ lack of depth at forward and the early season face-off woes, I think this is a great pick up.
Before the Whale went on to win last night’s game 4-1, rookie J.T. Miller was named to the AHL All Star Team. Miller will be the Whale’s lone representative, replacing Chad Kolarik, who was traded this week for Benn Ferriero.
Miller struggled out of the gate with the Whale, but has been much stronger since returning from the USA’s gold medal winning World Junior Championship...
Just when you thought the “While The Men Watch” controversy was over, it turns out it’s not.
On their official fan blog entitled “Blueshirts United,” the New York Rangers published an article entitled “A Girl’s Guide to Watching the Rangers” (Note: Rangers have removed the posting). Its purpose was to help new female hockey fans learn about the team and sport...
The New York Rangers had Stanley Cup aspirations even before acquiring Rick Nash prior to the lockout.
Despite their star power, they've yet to prove they're capable of living up to the lofty expectations.
New York looks to get on track Saturday night by avoiding a third straight home loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs, who have earned both of their victories on the road....
This is what the New York Rangers will try to do tonight when they take on the Toronto Maple Leafs at Madison Square Garden.
At 1-3 through four games, it is easy to see that the Blueshirts have not found the things that made them so successful last season on a consistent basis. In fact, there have only been glimpses of the team's tight defense, great goaltending from Henrik...
