Are you a female? Do you live in New York City or somewhere thereabouts? Do you think you might like hockey, but you don’t really know what it’s all about? Is your boyfriend a hockey nut? Or are you a female sports fan who likes to be insulted? Well, the New York Rangers might have you covered if you answered yes to any, some of or all of those seemingly stupid questions. The Rangers’ official blog, Blueshirts United, which is posted on their official website, is trying something new. According to an editor’s note on one of the most recent posts, “Blueshirts United has added a contributor network where additional writers from outside the organization will share their thoughts and perspective. This is the first of these articles.” It may also be the last. Within an hour of posting “A Girl’s Guide to Watching the Rangers,” the self-explanatory post had vanished. However, we were able to grab a couple of snippets before the Rangers killed the story (for now) as well as the tweet that read ”Check out the ‘Girls Guide to Watching the Rangers’ written by a guest writer from the #NYR contributor network.” The story, which was broken up into a slideshow, had this gem on the opening page: “That being said, when having either guy friends, brothers, boyfriends or husbands in your life, watching games in any sport becomes unavoidable. And if you live in New York and have one of the aforementioned male figures in your life, then chances are you can’t avoid their obsession with the Rangers. The fact that every single one of the guys watching this football game was wearing a Rangers jersey is a true testament to the loyalty of a Rangers fan. It’s not just a phase. It’s not just an obsession. It’s a Rangers lifestyle. “News of the NHL lockout’s end caused as much excitement in the male world as a 70 percent off sale does in a woman’s,” the author writes. “If you’re completely oblivious to what the end of the lockout means, think of it as the premiere of the newest season of Girls being delayed by months, and then suddenly, it’s announced that it will be coming back but with a lot fewer episodes to make up for lost time.” The article is supposed to walk females who know little or nothing about hockey and the Rangers through the basics in order for them to be able to keep up with their boyfriends or male friends. You can learn how to watch the Rangers in just four simple steps. They are: 1. They’re EXPECTING You to Ask Questions … Just know WHEN to do it. 2. Get to Know the RANGERS 3. Get to Know Henrik Lundqvist 4. Congratulations OK, so it’s only really three steps, as the fourth step isn’t really a step. The story, upon time of deletion, had at least 41 comments on it. Most of them, as you might expect, were pretty negative. Members of both genders were offended by the somewhat demeaning tone it took. The story has already taken a pretty good beating on social media, as well. Check out a screenshot of the story below.
