DETROIT (AP) -- In his last four games, Mike Napoli has five homers, nine hits, seven runs and 10 RBIs. The Texas slugger couldn't do any more damage Friday night. The Rangers and Detroit Tigers were postponed because of rain. "It's something you can't control," Napoli said. "We'll go do the split doubleheader tomorrow and start with game one and go from there." Friday was supposed to be the second game of a four-game set at Comerica Park, but it was called after a 25-minute rain delay before a single pitch was thrown. The teams will play a day-night doubleheader Saturday. Rick Porcello (1-0) of Detroit will face Matt Harrison (2-0) of Texas in the day game. That was supposed to be the matchup Friday. On Saturday night, Detroit ace Justin Verlander (1-1) takes the mound against Neftali Feliz (1-0). Friday's rainout means Texas reliever Scott Feldman will likely make a spot start Wednesday at home against the New York Yankees. Feldman has ...

Rangers P Robbie Ross dressed up as cowboy

Texas Rangers relief pitcher Robbie Ross underwent some friendly rookie hazing before Tuesday's game in Boston as he walked to the bullpen dressed as a cowboy. Your browser does not support iframes. Ross wore a cowboy hat over his regular baseball cap and a vest over his jersey. He also wore a pink cowgirl backpack with a pony hanging off of it and a rifle sticking out. Nothing...

Rangers prove they're the class of AL

These are baseball's most deceptive weeks. Bad teams play well. Good teams play poorly. The standings lie. Just not in the case of the Texas Rangers. The Rangers have allowed the fewest runs in the major leagues. The Rangers have scored the most runs in the major leagues. The Rangers own the best record in the major leagues. The Rangers are the best team in the major leagues...

Rangers' Beltre strains hamstring

DETROIT -- DETROIT -- Texas Rangers All-Star Adrian Beltre left the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Tigers with a strained left hamstring. Beltre was on the disabled list for five weeks late last season with an injury to the same hamstring. The Rangers led 8-0 after the first inning, and Beltre led off the second with a double to left. His stride altered as...

Series Spotlight: Rangers at Tigers (April 19-22)

I really wanted to write about the Braves and Diamondbacks series, which could be a major turning point in the National League. But over in the AL, there is a CLASH OF THE TITANS that begins today: the Rangers travel to Detroit to take on the Tigers in a rematch of the 2011 ALCS. Thusfar this season, the Rangers and Tigers are far and away the class of the American League. The teams...

Q&A: Mitch Moreland: Future Reliever?

A number of big-league position players were once pitchers. Blessed with strong arms, they excelled on the mound, as well as at the plate, against amateur competition. Only a few would be able to return to the hill with any chance of success against professional hitters. Rangers first baseman Mitch Moreland is among them. In high school, Moreland logged a record of 25-2 and in his...

Rangers 3B Beltre hurts hamstring, leaves game

Texas third baseman Adrian Beltre has left the Rangers' game against the Detroit Tigers with a strained left hamstring. Beltre hit a second-inning double and was holding his left hamstring after pulling up at second. He was taken out with Texas leading 8-0 in the first game of a day-night doubleheader. Beltre hasn't missed a game this season for the Rangers, but he spent...

Tigers, Rangers rained out

Jim Leyland is as impressed with the Texas Rangers as he was during last year's playoffs. ''They're such a tremendously solid team in all areas - starting pitching, defense, bullpen, offense,'' the Detroit manager said Friday. ''They're a very good team, top to bottom. They have a lot of nice weapons, they have a lot of versatility. They're...

Stay current with all the roster movement and personnel decisions with the TigsTown Transaction Blog. The Tigers purchased the contract of right-hander Thad Weber and optioned Daniel Schlereth to Toledo due to his struggles and the need for a long reliever in the bullpen.

Rangers vs. Tigers: Here’s What I’m Watching

The Texas Rangers are in Detroit to take on the Tigers Thursday night to start a four game series that should be great baseball. We know the names, Josh Hamilton, Michael Young, Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder…The Rangers and Tigers have shown to be the American League’s two best teams in this early portion of the season. Both teams have

Tigers salvage doubleheader split

DETROIT -- Justin Verlander didn't throw a perfect game or even a no-hitter Saturday, but against the hottest team in baseball, it might as well have been. The White Sox's Philip Humber might have thrown a perfect game against the Seattle Mariners, but the Mariners lineup doesn't quite equal that of the Texas Rangers, which Verlander said is the best in the American...

ROUND ROCK, Texas – Between Martin Perez and Neil Ramirez, two of the Texas Rangers' top pitching prospects are working back-to-back in the Triple-A Round Rock rotation. Lone Star Dugout sat down with Express pitching coach Terry Clark to discuss the development of the club's pitchers.

Royals Trade RHP Zach Miner to Detroit Tigers

The Kansas City Royals and Detroit Tigers announced a trade this morning, sending pitcher Zach Miner to the Tigers in exchange for cash considerations. Miner, who was drafted in 2000 draft in the 4th round by the Atlanta Braves, broke into the Majors in 2006 with the Detroit Tigers and has a MLB record of 25-20 with a 4.24 ERA and a 1.457 WHIP in four season.
