I’ve been playing fantasy sports – primarily baseball – since I was a young, five-foot seventh grader at Hyde middle school. Over the years I’ve accumilated my own philosophy in drafting and then sealing the championship with free agent pickups.
The trick?
Well, the fact that my fantasy opponents are most likely reading this, I wont reveal those secrets quite yet, but I can rank my top 10 Giants players in the world of fantasy baseball.
First and foremost, I must provide a quick disclaimer: the Giants offense is really bad, so the list may get a little weak near the end. Don’t get discouraged.
This list is graded on a rubric based on positional value, offensive/pitching production, injury history and defense.
Here is my top 10:
Buster Posey – C/1B
2011 fantasy stats:
46/162, 17 runs, four home runs, 21 RBI, three stolen bases, .757 OPS (99% owned)
2011 Yahoo! Sports ranking: 932
2012 Yahoo! Sports projected ranking: 75
2. Tim Lincecum – SP
2011 fantasy stats:
217 IP, 13 wins, 220 ...

SF Giants Rumors: Ryan Vogelsong and Eric Surkamp
Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle says the San Francisco Giants are being extremely conservative with Ryan Vogelsong in his return from a strained back. Bruce Bochy said Vogelsong will get three spring starts, and the Giants are preparing to skip his first regular-season spot in the rotation if necessary. The good news is Eric Surkamp pitched three great innings against...
SF Giants Rumors: Sanchez Needs AB’s, Posey To DH Today, Wilson Will Get An Inning, Vogelsong Gets Another Bullpen Session
John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle says Freddy Sanchez is looking forward to returning to second base this week. However, Sanchez is more concerned with getting his timing down at the plate.
“It’s been eight, nine months since I’ve had live at-bats,” said Sanchez. “Defensively, I want to get out there, but the main thing is getting those at-bats and seeing pitches...
Meet Your New Giants: Melky Cabrera
And that is all you need to know about Spring Training stats.
But oh, oh my, I wish it was real.
Right now, with 24 at-bats (tied for the most on the team so far this spring), Cabrera’s batting .542 with four doubles and three home runs. I won’t even worry about the lack of walks because he’s struck out just once. That’s some big numbers right there.
If his and Brandon...
Giants' Romo working to build memorable career
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- When Sergio Romo cruised past friends in his charcoal gray used 1993 Ford Thunderbird as a high school senior in Brawley, Calif., he beamed with pride. It was not the flashiest of rides, but it was his first car, and he was proud to have earned it.
"My dad's always made me earn everything I've had," Romo said. "I've had to work for...
Healthier Giants ready to contend again
And on the ninth day (of the exhibition season), the San Francisco Giants exhaled.
The season may not start for a few weeks.
The exhibition game stats may soon be forgotten.
But if the Giants are to rebound from last year's disappointment and return to the postseason or if they hope to reclaim the world championship they won in 2010 this will be a weekend that the Giants...
Season Previews: San Francisco Giants
With Spring Training well underway, it's time for one of our favorite things in all the world: Season Previews. Five years ago, they began as a semi-serious analysis and ended up as half-assed haiku. We're just gonna go with what we know. Kicking off our preview of the National League West, here is a sneak peak at the 2012 San Francisco Giants.
Oh my gosh Zito
Who told...
RotoWire MLB San Francisco Giants Preview
The Giants followed their World Series winning season by failing to make the playoffs last year, finishing 86-76. A major injury to Buster Posey certainly didn't help, as an already anemic offense got even worse. In fact, they scored by far the fewest runs in the National League. San Francisco's .303 team on-base percentage was also last in the Senior Circuit. The team'...

With a Grain of Salt: Reacting to Spring Training, Part 2
Greetings from Scottsdale! Thomas and I are out here for Spring Training, and we’ve had a very interesting time so far. We’ve seen two games, one loss and one tie, and done our best not to melt in the desert sun.
Some highlights:
- We talked to Willie McCovey. He’s very impressed by the new outfielders, but especially Melky Cabrera. We saw him call Melky over and introduce...
ST Notebook: Giants Top Royals In Surprise
Tim Lincecum and the bullpen shut down the Royals, while speed and aggressive base running from Manny Burriss and Gregor Blanco -- mixed with a little pop from Conor Gillaspie -- provided just enough offense. Final Score: Giants 2, Royals 1.
