As the Chicago Blackhawks started Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals against the Boston Bruins, Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith tweeted who he wanted to win. He was pulling for the Blackhawks, but he added more than just that in his tweet. Smith let the Boston fan base have it. He wrote a few tweets saying how people from Boston are the worst fans. Now this might sound harsh, but Smith has a good reason on why he is not happy with people from Boston. Last year when Smith’s brother passed away New Englanders were not that sympathetic. The Ravens played the Patriots right after Torrey’s brother died. Even with a very heavy heart Smith went on to have an outstanding game. Pats fans took to Twitter and wrote some not so kind words to Smith. Add to the fact the Patriots lost to the Ravens in last year’s NFL playoffs which prompted more insensitive words to Smith. After that playoff game Smith wrote, “Played a lot of games since my brother’s death and I never received as many rude tweets after a win than Sunday. Yet NE fans cry about class.” So on Saturday when Torrey tweeted out, “I hate everything about NE except KG,” not only did Patriots fans respond, but the entire Boston fan base reacted. Smith continued, saying: “I understand that every Fan base has bad fans what I’m saying is NE fans have more than others and think they are better than everyone else.” This weekend someone tweeted a photo of a motorcycle arcade game, mocking him about his brother’s death. Smith then retweeted that photo and said it proved his point. I am guessing that around the end of December of this year the tweets will start flying again. The reason is that the Patriots will face the Ravens in Baltimore on December 22nd.
